new life in finland

I dont know what possesed me to think about living in finland,(must be the moomintrolls!) but im looking for a family to stay with late autumn to try it out.im a home educater of three kids aged 4,6 and 10.we home ed in an autonomous style and i work part time for education otherwise. any help/info gratefully recieved

Well, there is one thing about living in Finland and another about staying in Finland and a small side note about income in Finland.

I wouldn't say a moomintroll bite is anything unique

...heard this a few times.

Trying out is always a good idea, but if you're coming over with kids, then you need to plan all kinds of scenarios.

So, if you are from EU and you can actually just come over you can try and find a job in education, but do you have a masters degree in what you teach and a degree in education? The local "standards" require someone tenured to have "papers" (and even EU degrees are recognized one still needs to make some courses to fully qualify)

And as you know in Finland "home schooling" is only allowed as long as you can prove to pass the Finnish curriculum, apart from which the only place your kids would learn the Finnish language, and to "act Finnish" so they wouldn't be "weird foreigners" and get friends would be in the school... so you might need to face some new realities. After all the moomintrolls were anarchists to the conformist Finnish society

So theres a lot of things there to think about and assess the different environments and lifestyle differences. Most government offices (immigration, education, labor) have pages in English and a lot of information pages, but what all do you need to know? (Note, not "what do you want to hear"

) As in how far into the process you are, or was it just a fleeting thought?

Your post isn't very clear.... are you a mum of three thinking of moving to Finland or are you looking for a family who needs an au-pair?

If you are not a native English speaker, I don't think you will find a family that will employ you as a home educator and you will find it difficult to get teaching hours. What is your mother tongue? And as Hank suggested, home education is strictly controlled here and I'm not sure how it would work for a foreign language. As far as I know the Finnish curriculum is the only way to go... at home or at school.

thankyou for some imput.i work for e.o and i home ed my three kids in an autonomous style. i will be doing some extra reading on the home ed. stuff as thats my main priority.i dont like being told what to do!and that goes double for my kids!yes i was up at that time in the morning mainly as its very hot here at the moment and i like to read in peace.as for facing a little reality...wheres theres a will theres a way so maybe we will stay for our ninty days and go on to peru as planned

Home educator and you want to educate someone in what language? English? Finnish? Spanish?
and Are you in Finland or not? Are you EU or not?
you want an Au-pair position only for you or for your whole family?
and which family would want a lady, who doesn't listen to their needs and who doesnt do anything as they are told?

and on top of all this, just for 3 months!! That must be some value for the family who are even looking anything similar to homeschooling!!

That's why Finland is quite strict about home schooling.

But I agree with the others. If you don't like being told what to do, then Finland is definitely not the place you want to be

Dunno if it is "nuts" depending on your situation (like physically living somewhere with no schools, like in the archipelago and when the ice break time comes), but then again when I grew up the only kids who didn't go to school I knew were handicapped ones.
