Over speed in Helsinki!

Well it depends on if they let it pass, its something to do with what the % over is so 35 in 30 is more serious than 105 in 100. For speeding or other traffic violations you get a "rikesakko" or "päiväsakko". The "being naughty fine" depending on the offence is 30-115 euros, IIRC speeding tickets run at the higher end... you need to go over 20 over the limit to get into the "day fines" they have a formula of how much your "day in jail" will cost as that is calculated as half of your daily income. In 2001, a Finnish businessman with a yearly income of 10 million euros, received a relatively mild punishment of six day-fines, amounting 26.000€, for driving though a red traffic light.

The cunning plan is when Albrecht comes to open an Aldi we'll lend him Rytsölä's Lamborghini and get rid of the national debt.

Why, the police have a calculator on their pages ... just choose your crime, say Ylinopeus 16-20 km/h rajoitus enint 60km/h (doing 50 in a 30), put your net income per month, amount of underaged children and you get a ballpark figure.

Exactly. The minimum fine for speeding is 115€.

i had one bink at me at a 40km/hr zone, i was doing 45km.....well, if it comes....it should arrive by 2 weeks...or else, they were checking my car!! hee hee

No, drinking a beer in the park or pissing on the street is 30 euros. The fines are in general use and not just for speeding. The day fines can be calculated so that the lowest would be under the 115, but that is the minimun fine for traffic tickets..

minimmum 1 km per hour fine is länsiväylä is around €100 ( 1KM over results in a warning but after that)..so think again when you do over..in 51..
then the rest of the fine depends on how much you earn..
A few years back, the current CEO of a big company paid a fine of around 217K€ for speeding in Espoo just cos of his salary !!

yes but check this page http://www.om.fi/31521.htm it said that under 15km/h its 85 e and over 15km/h and under 20 its 115 e, it means that they start to calculate the salary if the speed is over 20 km/h!! is it like this ?

They start to count the salary if the speed excesses a certain threshold.

I checked my information on poliisi.fi and it says there that the minimum fine for speeding is 115€. Although it doesn't calculate a fine if the excess speed is less than 16km/h. Anyone willing to solve this contradiction and try it out?

It also depends on what kind of speed trap you are caught on..
Automatic speed traps are calculated differently than manual ones and the speed zone is also taken into account.
( Generally, you receive a warning for an automatic speed trap of around 1-2 KM over)
( 80-60-80, 100-80-100, 30 only, school etc)

So, speedos have to very accurate....

(aren't they normally required only to be accurate to 10% ?)
