extra money for low salary?
Heii
i will be working in Finland from the beginning of august for the student union TKY. My salary would be 400EUR and i would have to pay rent more than 200...
so i'm asking myself and now you, 'cause i realy don't know how to find out, whether there's any possability to get some government or EU money; for housing, or wellfare or something.
I am EU citizen, and i have highschool deploma, so i considered to enroll at TKK (i don't know whether that's possible) for getting support as a student, and mabe even taking some courses. I don't want to enroll as an erasmus student, 'cause i want to save this possibelity for other times.
thanks for any idea,
Jonas

There is no hand out for foreign students in Finland.
So you have to beg in your home country.
Or take a students loan.

Re: extra money for low salary?
So you passed the entrance tests in March? Nice work just to be able to consider enrolling.so i considered to enroll at TKK
From your own country you have to find that out yourself, Finnish welfare is for residents, and getting yourself eligible takes up to two years, depending on what you apply for. Are you coming over on some kind of student traineeship thing?whether there's any possability to get some government or EU money; for housing, or wellfare or something

It does not take two years for EU citizens.

Thanks for the fast answers!
Is there not something like housing money?
I did't even know there is an entrance test. I thought of taking some courses which fit into my current field of study. But I don't want to bind myself on a certain amout of ECTS credits. Anyway... sounds like that is not possible anymore?!Hank W. wrote: So you passed the entrance tests in March? Nice work just to be able to consider enrolling.
I guess I would be a resident during that time, what are the premises to get welfare, and how much may I get and how long DOES it take?..., Finnish welfare is for residents, ...
good question... probably yes!Are you coming over on some kind of student traineeship thing?

This site should help clear up some of your questions.
If the link does not work, just go to www.kela.fi and choose English

I said up to two years. It depends on your residence and your work history.TampereOwl wrote:It does not take two years for EU citizens.

Yeah, you gilt-arsed foreigners just come here thinking you are some gods on a pedestal. Just walk into one of the prestigious schools with about the hardest entrance examinations and then start asking for an handout on top. How about that? Do you get an education on sponging welfare system in the UK you chav bums? You're entitled to jack unless you've worked in Finland for 10 months full time, unless you're brought over as a souvenier. Work or Family, coming initially to study doesn't bring you a residence for the purpose of sponging off welfare like those two others, as a student must show they have pursued all the other means of getting an income. www.kela.fiTampereOwl wrote:Does that make your cock bigger or something? 'some god on a pedestal'? Can you edit his post to show what an appropriately self-pitying post might look like?

So... I take this to mean that you already are a student at some university in your home country? (Just crossed my mind, since you can't "enroll" as an Erasmus student if you're not in higher education already in your home country... Erasmus students are exchange students, not degree students)johnnymauser wrote:I am EU citizen, and i have highschool deploma, so i considered to enroll at TKK (i don't know whether that's possible) for getting support as a student, and mabe even taking some courses. If you ARE studying at the moment, you could always ask TKK whether they'd accept you as a visiting student, that is, an exchange student outside any exchange programmes - but this depends, they might as well say "no". For example, you might only be allowed to apply via your home university, IF it has an exchange agreement with TKK. In any case you'd need to ask TKK directly about the procedure, the requirements, conditions, application times etc.
What's the deal with your "traineeship", work, or whatever with TKY? Is that arranged through some programme or another? Have you investigated your possibilities to get support from your home country? AFAIK exchange students ,trainees etc are not usually eligible for any sort of governmental (KELA) aid.

Well, you *can* enroll as a non-degree student. But theres a catch - studying on the "open university" side you have to pay for the courses, so its something like 100 to 300 euros per course, so if you're financially challenged that does present a problem. The degree studies are free - and your orgasmus exchanges, but getting into them is on the hard side of things. (Say to get to study law or medicine people pay a few grand for prep courses, was it now for law the average student has taken the entrance exam 2,5 times)johnnymauser wrote: I did't even know there is an entrance test. Well you have to prove you are coming to work to finland for at least 2 years to start with http://www.kela.fi => English => Residence in Finland...So depending on what you apply for, so you have to be working "in a real job" for 10 months to get on the dole. And then of course have your residence registered properly being domiciled permanently and all that. But if you are on some kind of a student thing - then getting permanent domicile is slightly awkward as they regard students as temporary and a person getting residence on the basis of studies signs off the handouts. You need to be in the country for "other reason" first, and then you're eligible.I guess I would be a resident during that time, what are the premises to get welfare, and how much may I get and how long DOES it take?..., Finnish welfare is for residents, ...
OK, so then you should look into if you get some subsidies back home now can you carry them over. As basically here the student getting a paid traineeship won't get their handout. And while you're at it you should read all the small print as it may be that there is some provision there that you are on some sort of exchange status and you can attend classes - or then not - but these things depend a lot of the institutions and the very fine small print.good question... probably yes!Are you coming over on some kind of student traineeship thing?
Yes, but as you're not a resident... catch-22Is there not something like housing money?

Hi, I am Sponge-Bob Kelapants.TampereOwl wrote:'some god on a pedestal'? Can you edit his post to show what an appropriately self-pitying post might look like?

I am entitled to be better treated than a Finn, not because I am some foreign chav, but because the EU makes the light shine out of my arse. Now I don't need to obey any rules, follow any regulations, but I am entitled to leech on taxpayers money just because I hate my own country and want to have my half-long hair flutter in the breezes. Please provide me with free acommodation, cable tv with SKY sports and beans and toast or I'll complain to the human rights Comissary.
