Cars: What is Contrôler un système d’allumage

..I'm totally stuck on this one, I've figured many things out from my French Haynes car maintenance manual, but this one - where I need to change the 'Contrôler un système d’allumage' for my Renault Twingo at 60K km service, has me stumped. If anyone has a clue what this is in english I'ld be grateful, even moreso if you know what it is in Finnish.

I'm pretty sure its some kind of electronic controller for the spark plugs - it maybe a distributer or it may be something that stands between the distributer and the plugs - whatever, my French dictionary hasn't a clue and Haynes isn't either!

I think its "sytytyksen ohjausyksikkö" in finnish. "ignition control unit" in eng.
Thats just wild quess tho so im not sure if its really same part so no quarantee

Contrôler is a VERB. It means to check, inspect or audit something.

Système d'allumage is the ignition.

So... "contrôler le système d'allumage" just means inspect the ignition system. Nothing necessarily needs to be changed... unless the verification throws up a problem.

purger is to get rid of something. So I guess it means to change (drain, bleed) the brake fluid.

If you do it to yourself (se purger) it means taking a laxative.

..yes well, that was last month's French lesson..'purger' seems to mean 'flush' - so what took me around 3 hours to translate in the end was just a standard brake fluid change with no wierd stuff.

Strangely its a joy to work through French, since at least with French I have a flying chance of guessing, unlike Finnish which is like a clay-shoot in a hurricane.

Those links are really really heavy, even for an avid Haynes reader!
