Curtain Advice

Post by yatest5 » Mon Jun 16, 2008 6:34 pm

So....

I have some curtains from Antilla in Tampere - however, the material generally used for curtains here in Finland seems to be very thin, especially considering it is now light 23.5 hours a day!

I went to look in Sokos and Antilla for some 'curtain linings' - essentially a thick piece of material that actually keeps out light to go behind the curtain.. however I couldn't find anything :(.

What do normal people do here - I'm waking up at 5am every morning!

Thanks!

Have "pimennysverhot", these things that go up and down, I don´t know what it is in English. They keep all the light out. And if I am somewhere where there are no "pimennysverhot", I just throw a black T-shirt over my eyes.

Perhaps blinds?

Hanging blinds is not as easy as clipping some curtains to a rail :(

Ikea had quite thick curtains under name Tupplur, but it seems they are no longer selling them in Finland. In Eurokangas and Kodin Ykkönen they sell special dense cloth for curtains.

Roller shades, rullaverho, is what most people use here. And if you get pimennysverho it will totally block the light (well, other than what gets past the sides). They are very easy to install. You can get cheap ones from Anttila, although I would recommend going to a proper store that sells roller shades and blinds and buy them there, as they will work much better than the cheap ones.

I sleep with a dark colored tshirt over my face, it's the only thing that seems to help and doesn't make me itch.
