Government Wants More Drugs Substituted with Generics

Has anybody read about this in more detail? Will they also consider replacing safer medications, e.g. replace with ones that have been known to cause other medical conditions? E.g. pioglitazone with rosaglitazone, the latter of which is said to cause heart attacks (couple of articles etc. on the news websites).

Would be very interesting to know.
