Ah, see now, you are integrating.
catchmeifucan wrote:You make my other Finnish mates look bad.
You make the other foreigners look bad, you're supposed to whine for us to bend the rules for you, because you're a gilt-arsed gift of god (maybe for the ladies who worship your rod and staff) and cannot accept things how they are in "other western countries". Thats what "foreigners" do
What is your problem Hank? You seem to have some deep rooted personal frustrations which you try to get rid of by bashing at people for no reason and without any consequences.
Since, I don't whine IT IS A PROBLEM!!!
Well, I am mature enough to understand that, this is Finland and I want it to remain like Finland and not be like some other EU country where, I cannot even dare to stand alone in the bus stop in the fear of getting beaten up. Just for the reason of not being white enough.
Atleast, in the part of Finland I live, I never felt that Finnish women are worshipping foreigner like me (no offense to anyone). I rather felt the opposite in some cases. Why do you have the feeling that all Finnish women are trying to do anything to satisfy a foreigner (is it a white foreigner or dark skinned foreigner, EU or Non-EU lot of factors are there)?

You screwed up but, don't blame it on others. PLEASE DON'T GENERALIZE!!!
Behave like a man not a 5 year old.

According to the studies done by the Flower-Hatted-Auntie Society - you cannot exist  You should be yelling discrimination because of the cloudy days. Honestly - that is what I expect from a foreigner these days. Being an irritant that the gods and devils have sent to annoy me as if I were Job.
Well, please let the Flower-Hatted-Auntie Soceity know I exist. :D They can invite me to coffee and cake if they want. I can give them more ideas on how make Finland a better country in term of dealing with foreigners.

And discrimination exists everywhere, even in my own country. Somewhere it is money, somewhere skin color, somewhere your family name. It exists in some form of the other.

Finnish people expect foreigners to speak their language. That's nothing bad. It is a valid demand. Now, they also understand that it takes time to learn the language. I have met people who know I am trying my best given the unique and demanding nature of my work and they appreciate that.

Now, the funny thing is "A very renowned consultant from US visited Finland while working with me in a project asked: You seem to like this place (which was weird to him) what do you actually want? My answer was, I want nothing just doing my job like you and trying to live a life.". So, the Finns are least of my problems. :)

Finland is my country and I live in it.

Besides which you got the language thing all wrong. You don't need Finnish atm because you have a job and a network that supports you. The problems start if you don't have a supporting network and no job. Then the ability to speak local becomes crucial. So learning the language is putting money in the bank, or like paying money to the union for unemployment. Someone whining they don't get a job after 10 years in Finland and not speaking the language is the same as someone whining they don't get dole even they have been working in the country for 10 years but never paid towards the unemployment fund.

Well if all foreigners were like you then we wouldn't have this problem, eh?

Well, my empirical studies from the time I still had the time and money to waste being "in the chase" in the late 80's and early 90's was that if you went to a disco the girls were after the ethnic sausage. Any dark skinned male winked their eye and the girls were running after them for the funky cold medina.

Which of course remember there weren't any foreign women around back then so it was a futile competition.

But even then when I stopped going to the discos as I hated dancing with my limp foot I then noticed when I got back into the market in the 2000's ten years past even chatting up girls was an English-only effort. I remember Ktulu was present at this discussion, now he's maori and had dreadlocks, but there was me looking as myself and then another Australian bloke... speaking in English at Base I think it was... anyways these three Finnish girls, young things came chat us up. Now as we all were at the time somewhat involved we gave them a bit of a cold shoulder, but it was funny. Now I can fake it for a few seconds with variable success...

chatting up: pull 100%

Q: "Where are you from?"
A: "Vantaa"
Q: "No, like where were you born?"
A: "Naistenklinikka"
Q: "Ai, sä oot joku suomalainen vai..."
[*]

[*]for the linguistically challenged = "Oh, so you're a Finn then..."[/i]

...and *pluf* even it isn't midnight and the Ferrari just turned into a Lada and the glass slipper into a grey Ecco - the only resort still is to get another beer to drink the ugly ones beautiful, as Finn = no profit.

So I really don't know what to do, except seek revenge in a bottle. Now the question is where do all the foreign girls go hide themselves? Any pub/club one goes to theres still only foreign "exotic" guys on the hunt. I seriously think all nations South of the Alps propagate by cloning. Never seen a woman from those parts... OK, one or two, but by the probability there is something about Miriam in them surely. Or a bigger & uglier Finnish boyfriend. So now I've given up even wondering. Now some men like a fishin', but some men like the fowlin' Some men like to hear, to hear the cannonball a-roarin'

PLEASE DON'T GENERALIZE!!!
Sorry, I have heard enough of "Finns are racist nazi xenophobes blaa blaa blaa" to be allergic to all general trees...

I don't give a sh*t if you're a Finn or a foreigner as long as theres whiskey in the jar.

After reading a lot of this forum i noticed something. People whine how they are asked where they are from and why theyre here.
Today i talked one finnish girl in bus, one part of discussion was (roughly translated).
- Where youre from
- Kemijärvi
- Ahh, what youre doing here
- Came to work

That girl was racist! She needs some sensitivy/multicultural training to understand us from north! :flowerhat:

Thats totally normal, im finnish but i talk differently so they ask. I never thought it but this wasnt first time and probably not last.
For those who dont know where Kemijärvi, meaning 99,9% of readers, is its about 800km north from Tampere where i live now :)

PS. If anyone looked small series Taivaan tulet it was filmed in Kemijärvi but they didint talk kemijärvi dialect, Director said it isnt "strong" or "lappish" enough.

OK GOOD; SO YOU HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THE CONCEPT OF LEARNING FINNISH THEN. If you want to communicate learning a language is a good start.

I feel, it would be nice to speak in Finnish and I know it will takes years. I don't want to be that je#k who after 10 years here cannot even order food in restaurant in here. I cannot know the real Finland unless I learn Finnish. I am slow but, will catchup.

I don't agree with your Finnish women crazy about foreign men thing. Not in the place where I live or may be I have too dark skin color. :D

I really don't know where foreign girls hide. If I do, you will be first to be informed.

I also donot care whether you are a Finn or a Foreigner as long as there is whiskey in the Jar. :beer_yum:

Maybe you're here in the wrong decade, and the market is saturated. I wouldn't mind if we go make an empirical study and see what the pull factor will be. http://www.powwer.org/news_events.html The line up will include cultural dance from the Warembo Queens borne out of East Africa sounds like "foreign girls" to me... now wheres my rhodesian army shirt...

So then, to use an American sports idiom, the ball is in your court. You have to think of the next thing to say so you will learn a little more about her and keep the conversation going. 8)

That's what you need to find out by yourself. If I were you, I would go to Hungry now.
I was there last week. It is pretty warm there, and women were there....just stunning. If I weren't married, I would have bought one. Maybe I should mark this for my retirement plan

Thats hard part since we dont chat, we speak when needed. I were fishing with my friend and chat was like.
- On ilmoja pielly.
30sec pause
- juh
30sec pause
- mitäs nykyään
30sec pause
- samaa, töitä vaan.
30sec pause
- juu niin mullaki.
300sec pause
- Ei kala syö
30sec pause
- ei oikeen, pitäiskään vaihtaa paikkaa.
30sec pause
- ei kai vielä.
etc...

We arent really chatty people, just talk when needed. Of course that was overeaxggated but you get point :)
