And there goes Hank getting blocked again :)

Arina..what Hank was pointing out, in his lovely sense of humor, is that an MBA and a Masters can be and are considered 2 different things here. Not all schools award the MBA degree, while others offer both MBA's and other Master's degrees in business subjects, such as an M.A. or M.S. in business administration, or business studies, or just business.

edited to add: Hank has never been accused of having such a thing as manners. That is one of his endearing qualities. I would not blame is folks though..I am sure they tried.

do I have to take some kind of entrance exam? because I read on few site and it is written there that I will have to take entrance exam
Well if the websites for the study programmes state that there is an admission exam, then I am sure there IS an exam.
Take a look at the stickies on this forum, and read the webpages of each individual study programme (they can make their own rules and decide if they want to have an exam or not).

If all else fails, contact the organisers of the programme and ask.

I think you first have to decide exactly what education you are looking for. Only then can you look at each educational institution to see if they have this particular programme. Step three is to find out the info about admissions.

A "masters degree in business" is a higher education degree that it is illegal to ask tuition fees for entitles you to apply for a government job. A "MBA" you pay megabucks for and as far as the government is concerned it entitles you to work as a manager of a McDonalds.

Really? You weren't required to submit scores from the GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test) or GRE (Graduate Record Exam)?
Admission to MBA programs in the US is highly competitive and I would be surprised to learn of any program offered through an accredited college or university that would admit without scores from one of these exams. You should make sure you have been admitted to a program in an accredited college or university. http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/

That's great –the GMAT is a very difficult exam. No, finances aren't usually considered in admission decisions; it is when you apply for your US student visa that you show your financial information.

Just for information, here are the requirements to apply for an MBA where I work (UC Berkeley)

Arina is probably from Pluto :P
All candidates are required to take the GMAT exam prior to the deadline for which they are applying.
... so you can't be going for a Master degree problem in the US without GMAT or GRE so stfu!!!

Go and check your documents and make sure they are OK or work hard and squeeze yourself here before Finland also start charging big bucks :D

Just to be clear: I am not questioning Ariana's admission to a degree program; she has a letter of admission and the I-20 form so she is good to go. Good luck. Ariana, whether it is in the US or Finland.

But thanks, I think I will just go to US as only thing is left is to buy ticket and go there. Where in US you are located mrshourula ?

Arina,

Usually the regulars are very nice and of great help; however, some of them are a little edgy these days. It will pass.

As for me, I live in Berkeley, California (once had the second largest Finnish immigrant population on the West Coast). My daughter is about to spend a year studying in Finland. Where will you be studying in the US? (I understand if you'd rather not say in such a public forum).

View this or not: and who care if you ignore me? Do you know what a bastard means [check the dico if you don't]? When I was getting my admission, you are probably not yet produced in your dad's balls and your mum's egg haven't dreamt moving

And I am not getting mad at you because you got what I achieved years back. It doesn't just seem too true to me

FYI: It is just an admission letter (a paper). It doesn't mean you will graduate and actually have a Masters degree moron :D  :D One can have as many as 999 admissions if one wishes   Attending one and working hard to complete the program and earn a degree is the most important... :beer_yum:

I think rather than being mad at you, people are trying to point out to you that the study programme you got admission to without doing any hard work is probably a crap degree that will be as useful to you as a piece of toilet paper. If you don't have to work hard to get something, it is usually not a very worthwile thing.

And a MBA isn't a traditional "masters degree". For the HankenMBA which I think its the other well accredited one in Finland they actually require a masters degree(or bachelors) and 5 years experience in management, and it costs a measly 25K compared to the 27K you pay at the Helsinki School of Economics, which also has a well accredited MBA programme and they require also the GMAT. Of course if you want a masters degree in in HSE thats a different thing. And if someone aspiring to get into the programmes cannot find the entrance requirements themselves - they're more likely to succeed in the USA. QED.

(Theres also MBA at the Oulu University as well as the Turku School of Economics )

This is so true....I know for sure to get admitted in any reputed US institute for MBA,one has to go through GMAT and TOEFL...and GMAT score counts a lot as a high score can get one through to probably one of the IVY League colleges and may boost your chances of getting scholarship...Indians are the largest group of foreign students in US and i have never come across any Indian being admitted to any MBA Institute in US without having to appear for GMAT and Toefl...
