Repairers are doing NOTHING!

Post by rauginta_kojine » Tue Jul 08, 2008 3:09 pm

Me any my boyfriend are already tired of this!

Read the story:
In May, our neighbours, from 3rd floor had a problem : the water was strongly leaking from the pipe, which was between our and their bathroom. Okay, the problem was solved in around 4 days. But in order to solve the problem, reipairers had to break some our bathroom's floor and wall to change the pipes etc.

Then after their statement that the problem is solved, we were like - oh so now it is left to repair the bathroom and all the problems are gone. We thought so.

After a week, some ISS repairers came to make some photocopies of our bathroom. Another day they brought some big machine which blows the air from inside and dries "the place". They told us to keep it ON for 2 weeks until they come again to check it. From here the story becomes impossible...

After 2 weeks they came, made some more photocopies, then metered something, then again the machine had to be left on for the second 2 weeks.
And now again!! Today and yesterday, they did the same and left it again for 2 weeks! Amazing how they are doing nothing. And even my boyfriend doesnt see there any reason why some machine should "dry" our bathroom!. (6weeks!)

That machine is quite loud, it disturbs when trying to asleep. To live with that would be an absurd. And it seems that nobody is going to actuallyrepair our bathroo, just to play like this...

We rent our appartment for 670eur a month with VuokraTurva. Do you think we have a right to ask for a smaller price in this period, when we have that loud machine?

I am also thinking about calling to a repairer and ask why is this continuing and why they cannot repair the bathroom just right now. (my boyfriend even started to joke : "maybe they are still drinking coffee")

Had somebody similar kind of problem with repairers in Finland?

If you fix it before it's properly dry you'll only end up with a mouldy bathroom and health problems.

You could probably get a rent reduction from your landlord, but you should have asked for that 4 weeks ago.

Several weeks air drying is not unusual.

Yes, we should have...But we didnt know it will take that long!! It is disturbing all the nice summer...

About dry-ness. My boyfriend knows little bit about fixing these things... (as all boys do  ) So he says, that even if it is not dry, they could (actually) repair it right now. He says, "its nothing to do with the wetty thing.. It will get dry after some time itself, (if its not),because there is no way it shouldn't dry up itself.

Well I think your boyfriend knows as much about drying walls and floors as you know about summer cottages.

I had a water problems a couple of years back. It took weeks of heated mats and warm air fans, with periodic visits by the man with a dampness-meter, before finally it was ok to repair. Bathrooms here tend to have a waterproof membrane sandwiched between wall and tiles. All moisture needs to be removed before the wall coating can be replaced. These rules are there for a reason - the repair contractors don't want to be called back in a year or two when someone complains of mould, of that the wall coating is starting to peel away.
Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Thanks Karhunkoski for enlightening. We both didn't know the system and the finnish walls ;)
Anyways, should we still ask for a rent deduction or is it already "gone"?

You can always ask, if you donn't ask you won't get

4 to 6 weeks is normal. They should of informed you about the situation. This happened in my apartment a few years ago. I was allowed to use the downstair sauna facility.
Pretty nice because I got a free sauna every night
