Yep know the feeling. I am afraid there will be more questions like this to come with economy going down and foreigners thinking that they have a steady job. As I mentioned earlier you can better have a good contract (which they have to pay out) than a 'fixed' job. Good luck to find another job.

And joining the YTK is an idea, they have a fixed fee for the year.

Correct Hank, good friends will tell you that before you start working, otherwise you get close to nothing when !"#¤% happens  Kassa brings Kassa (at least a little bit)

If people would RTFM the bloody stickies they'd know. Of course as this is Finland "everybody knows this" as its explained on 9th grade in school in you social studies classes - but of course then nobody will go ahead explaining it... Frankly speaking if you wade through the legislation and benefits bit at the YTK site it is pretty obfuscated so I don't wonder nobody wants to think about it - even I get a slight headache.

So for the benefit of the public - if you are working join an unemployment fund *now*. Its like paying fire insurance. If you don't belong you'll get jack for unemployment benefits when things go sour. No use crying afterwards the house burns you didn't have an insurance.

I can understand that foreign people forget and maybe they cannot always join the kassa. But if you come here and pay a !"#¤% load of taxes you might think it covers something like in other countries :?

There are (understandebly) rules you have to fulfill before you get money (10 months working etc.)
