Which hotel do you recommend me in Helsinki??

Post by Dark_Wish » Sat Jul 19, 2008 3:24 am

Hello!

I'd like to travel to Helsinki, I'm looking for a hotel near Kamppi and I found this 3:

Hotelli Helka
Radisson SAS Royal Hotel
Sokos Hotel Presidentti

Which of these 3 are better in your opinion??
Or if you know another one near Kamppi, let me know...

Thanks a lot!

Hi! I was last month in Helsinki for a weekend and stayed in this one

http://www.scandichotels.com/Hotels/Cou ... ic-Marski/
It's a quite nice one in the very centre of Helsinki and about 5 min walking from Kampi. Check the website because they have from time to time really good offers.I was with a friend there for 70€ double-room.Big beds, big room......and of course sauna in the last floor.

Well, they're not big ones, but without being accurate I can say that mine was something between 5 and 6m2. So depending what you wanna do there, it's more than enough. Besides I always took morning and evening shower after sauna IN the sauna premises, so I had to go to toilet IN my room maybe 2 times the whole weekend I was there. Don't know, it depends on you of course... For me it's more far more comfortable to have a big bedroom than a big bathroom, and bedroom was big enough, more than what i'm used to when it comes to offers. :D .

I guess it depends also on what your budget is. I've stayed at Radisson SAS Seaside and Sokos Hotel Presidentti but not at Radisson SAS Royal Hotel. Radisson SAS Seaside is lovely (and I'm quite fussy!) and the Presidentti is okay. Last trip to Helsinki we stayed at Hotel Linna http://www.palacekamp.fi/in_english/hot ... el_linna2/ which was also quite lovely and suprisingly affordable. I would definitely stay there again. I don't recall any of the bathrooms being big. :? Finnish hotel bathrooms tend to be quite small but then again most hotel bathrooms unless you're going 5 star are going to be smaller rather than larger.

I would have to say Sokos hotels, www.sokoshotels.fi because thats who my wife works for, the hotels are good rooms are up to date and the price is the same as all the rest of them, but in the summer they offer some great discounts, I would say I have been to 75% of Sokos hotels in Finland which have all been very good. But if you are looking just for a bed take a look at http://www.omena.com/frontpage there is not much in the way of customer service :-)

Helka is a non-chain and cosy hotel, which has much Finnish flavour.

Above mentioned Hotel Linna represents exceptional architecture, it is not far away from Kamppi

Downtown Las Vegas HotelI guess it depends also on what your budget is. I've stayed at Radisson SAS Seaside and Sokos Hotel Presidentti but not at Radisson SAS Royal Hotel. Radisson SAS Seaside is lovely (and I'm quite fussy!) and the Presidentti is okay.
I've stayed at the Radisson SAS Seaside several times and it is a nice, clean hotel---based at the edge of a working dockside not the seaside though---it's fine for a business trip. I also like the Hilton Helsinki Kalastajatorppa.

Where we stay depends mainly on when are going and what offers are available.
I counted that we've stayed in 5 in the Helsinki area...

Hilton Kalastajatorppa
Our first choice ... we stay there when visiting the in laws in Munkkiniemi, unfortunately it's never open at Christmas
http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hotel/H ... l/index.do

Scandic Continental (opposite the Oopera)
We stay there at Xmas because it's one of the few open and at New Year because of the proximity to the Oopera (Rigolletto last year, Nutcracker this year). Opt for the "Superior" class of room and you can get lounge access (10th floor, with a great view of Töölönlahti
http://www.scandichotels.fi/fi/Hotels/C ... ected=true

Scandic Simonkenttä (on Kamppi)
my wife's company book their workers in there, OK rooms, a bit cold though
http://www.scandichotels.fi/fi/Hotels/C ... ected=true

Holiday Inn Helsinki City Centre (at the Railway station)
http://www.finland.holidayinn.com/
and
Holiday Inn Pasila
http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/hotel/HELCC

Have stayed once in each using Priorityclub points, no problem with either ... it's just we prefer Kalastajatorppa if paying ourselves.

I rather prefer to you the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel. Even though I didn't stay in for a long time, I really enjoyed my moment there. Their bathrooms were nice, not that big but comfortable.

I've stayed in various hotels in Helsinki

Scandic Simonkenttä is a very nice hotel, a good location, very clean and friendly staff but can be expensive.
Scandic Märski - again a very good location, clean, friendly staff but as part of the same chain can be expensive.

Radisson Plaza, is a nice hotel again, my only complaint was that the main doors were locked at a certain time and there was no one on the reception desk so if your card didn't open the doors you were stuck outside!

Seurahuone - this is opposite the railway station so great location. Rooms could do with a bit of renovating but they are clean. Has a nice restaurant on site too but I think it is closed on a Tuesday.

Hotelli Finn  it's great entertainment. Drunks in the lift, plug sockets falling off the wall, and a bath that you have to be a contortionist to get into. A bit cheaper than the other hotels but no where near them in cleanliness.

Great descriptions... Thanks so much. I'm looking to go to Finland for my second time and i'm very excited. I have stayed at the Seurahuone and it's very comparable to most Las Vegas Casino Hotel, they are very posh in my opinion. Of course I am comparing them to the cheap ones because they can get very expensive haha. Thanks so much for the awesome info.
