Crayfish party..costs and how?
Crayfish party..costs and how?
We decided to have crayfish party, then thought about costs.
for about 60 crayfish, what would cost be?
Also, do we need to "book" them from stockmann or somewhere??

If you arent swede then just forget those hardly eatable things and just drink, about 0,7l of 40% booze/per person is enough if there is woman and childs, if not then double.
Drinking is main thing in there anyway

Re: Crayfish party..costs and how?
I just went to my first one of the season on Monday. Prices will go down for the fresh ones towards the end of the season, this is supposed to be a record year for lots of crawfish. They were a bit expensive for the catered ones, 3.80 each, though you can get the frozen ones from Spain for a bit cheaper. If you find a place to order them, it is quite customary that everyone pays for their own up front, so the actual cost to you might not be so much if you only order what people pay you for.

That sounds like a really cool kind of Party.
Costs will vary depending on if you put them all in one big tank, or in a pond? You might be able to rent a really big fishtank that would fit 60 fish, but I don't think Stockmann do them. At least fish won't need a lot of entertaining, like other animals (cats, dogs, etc.), but a few new fishtank decorations might be a good idea.
You also need to think about how guests will transport their fish to & from the party. A little bag filled with water is most common & quite cheap too. But some of the fish might prefer travelling with a bit more comfort & dignity.

I think buying them from Stockmann is probably cheaper than fishing for them!!! We had a crayfish party on an island off Korppoo this weekend. The price for a permit is 40 or 50€ (can't remember) then another 20€ per person
which covers about 300m of shoreline on a lake on Korppoo. We fished for several hours and only managed to catch about 30 crayfish (but we threw 10 back before we left as they were not really big enough to bother about). So we had 2 crayfish each.... OK for a starter with plenty of toast etc. It was fun, the weather was terrific and we finished off the weekend with champagne for breakfast today (my birthday).
And they were delicious.

I highly recommend them as Even Stockmanns gets most of their Crayfish from them!!
and you can get a pretty good deal if you can visit their shop in between Siuntio and Inkoo!!

Re: Crayfish party..costs and how?
The last piece of salmon I got from them (about 2 weeks ago) was very fatty and not nice. But usually their stuff is good. I will drop in tomorrow and check the price of their crayfish. BTW, I noticed they also sell quince jelly should anyone be looking for it...
Last week I got some fresh salmon from the market in Tammisaari (Wednesdays and Saturdays). It was really good. I guess there are crayfish there too.

I'd had a few traps at the cottage, but I'd need the MIL for bait...

Re: Crayfish party..costs and how?
I accidently caught someones crayfish trap last night while fishing, jammed packed of the little blighters and what a noise they make
Most have a flag or plastic bottle marker...this had just a bit of old stick so i never realised what it was!
Put abit of bend in the rod for once
Put me off paddling in the water knowing those beasties are underfoot.

I didn´t know you need a permit for crayfishThe price for a permit is 40 or 50€ (can't remember) then another 20€ per person which covers about 300m of shoreline on a lake on Korppoo.

This seems to be a good crayfish year. Two days ago I put the traps down already in the afternoon, and surprisingly there were crabs already two hours after. We caught 46 by ten o´clock. Plenty to eat for two, it wasn´t a party or anything, we just experimented if there are any.
Re: Crayfish party..costs and how?
Oh yes... definitely need a permit.
And most lakes regulate what kind of trap you can use. In Korppoo we were not allowed to use the deep traps that you take out on a boat. We could only use the small ones that you put down from the shore. They just have a piece of stick on the end which you attach to a tree or a rock or just leave on the beach where you can see it. And we were only allowed access to a small stretch of the shore, IIRC about 300m.
