Most scenic, secluded cottage area in Finland

Post by sven » Sun Jul 27, 2008 2:05 am

I'd really appreciate hearing from people about the most secluded but scenic, beautiful and enjoyable cottage area in Finland?

Any referrals for amazing cottages you have rented in the past would also be appreciated.

We're looking for privacy, secluded forests to explore, and pristine lakes to swim in basically.

Do you want it so secluded that there is no electricity and running water?

Do you want your forests so secluded that there are no marked trails for you to walk along when you are exploring?

These are important questions to answer first, before further advice.

Electricity, running water, and marked trails would be needed so I guess not that secluded.

Even Internet access, if possible.

we just visited here, and were very happy with how very secluded it was, while still having cable TV, internet capabilty, fully stocked cottage, electricity, wonderfully beachy lake to swim in, etc.

If you need any more info about it, feel free to ask me!

That sounds wonderful Jessica.

What kind of Internet access did all of the cabins offer?

I need to be able to use my laptop to get/receive e-mail as well as receive calls via Skype or hook up my voice over IP internet phone to a router, due to work concerns.

Thanks again.

I have to say, 'secluded' in the same sentence with 'electricity, running water, internet access and marked trails' made me burst to laughter.

Ah, that would then mean 90% of Finland. :)

secluded
adjective
quiet and private by being situated away from people, roads or buildings:
a secluded beach
a secluded house in the forest

Must say, "secluded cottage" makes me picture a place like the one we once rented up in the north, the only mökki in a picturesque bay, nothing but reindeer and wildlife to watch you swim naked, the nearest neighbour over a km away. Having:
Between each cabin there is a distance of 50-100 meters with dense forest in between to ensure the privacy of our guests.
sounds perfectly pleasant, just not my idea of "secluded". :D

The archipelago area around Turku/Parainen has some beautiful scenery (and quite different to the coniferous forest variety) if you want something a bit different. We spent this past weekend off Korppoo and my SO could get 3.5G on his phone with no problems (the network covers the coastal shipping/ferry routes). The wildlife is fab, even saw seals and tons of seabirds and of course the fishing is great. The mosquitoes are no more of a problem than in the forest (maybe less if it is breezy). We were swimming every day, the sea was around 20 deg C and no algae. The views in the archipelago are breathtaking and quite unique in Europe.

Forests are OK, but can be claustrophobic after a while (IMO). A mökki with a beach (lake or sea) is more fun than a hut in the middle of overgrown Christmas trees.
