That sounds.... Wonderful...
also known as corned beef and cabbage.

please take for granted when you ask questions we know everything about you and we can read your mind. we will know if you need a residence or work permit. we will know you if you have 7 years experience in a michelin 5-star and want to specialize in reindeer testicles in cranberry sauce, we know you have in-laws in nowhewremäki and speak fluent finnish or we also know you are 16 out of school with experience at wimpy's madly in love with some hawt blonde you met when she was on a language course in brighton - we know this all from your question immediately being omnipotent, clarvoyant and having a crystal orb

Yeah.... I know. I hate myself every day for it.

That's ok, nobody's perfect. But I wouldn't advertise it when in Finland

To be honest no, even though it violated the first laws of a forum - I wanted a more personal reply.
Plus - They dont really say much else, particularly the thread by 16 year old... And the other guy was married to a Fin.
Still, you guys have been very helpfull. In a years time or so, when i actually begin to look for work in Finland - Ill be far more prepared now.

Well this is your original posting:
Cyan wrote:Im a chef from Australia, and i very much want to move to Finland at the end of 2009, or early 2010.
I was just wondering if anyone has any idea what the food industry is like over there, and or, how difficult it is to secure hospitality work in Finland.... Particularly seeing as my Finnish will be basic at best by that stage.
Any help you could provide would be much appreciated.
As said, those ones are not the only ones, there are others which might give a picture of the industry, eg a postings of one guy who worked as a chef and was dismissed etc. Perhaps that is personal enough for you?
What an attitude you have.

Stow YOUR attitude sir.
Contribute to the thread, or dont post - The rules of the internet apply everywhere.
On topic, ive been asking my Finnish friends and relatives about traditional Fin food, and its quite interesting i have to say. Its so very far removed from our asian inspired seafood heavy culture - I cant wait to taste it.

Well one thread is 1 1\2 yrs old and the other 4 yrs old!!! come on give the guy a break! Sometimes it's good to get fresh personal feedback. Or has something irritated you about this thread that you felt the need to complain? As long as he's getting some response others don't think its such a repeated question!

Holy cow, I just thought to be helpful and indicate the existence of earlier postings regarding food industry in Finland, no intention to dismiss the current discussion and your valuable contribution. In the absence of recent personal accounts, I believed those earlier ones could be at least somewhat useful. Even if the earlier postings can not be completely relevant, they could give a general picture. In addition to those few samples I picked, there are other threads as well, such as the story of freddieb who worked as a chef….

Well thats promising.... Not so much for Finland, but for me
I found this webpage, which has been VERY interesting.
http://www.finfood.fi/
And ive been looking into allot of finnish foods. Im going to try and make everyones favorite Mämmi tomorrow.
Veriohukaiset and Munajuusto also caught my eye, as both being completley foreign concepts to those i was taught..... particularly blood in pancakes.

Thanks man. I didnt really feel the need to dignify him with a real reply. The people who have provided me with real replys i must thank again. One should never delve into enemy territory unprepared!

It is often said you have to be mad if you want to move to Finland.

If you really mean it, you'll have no problems fitting in.
