Distance learning.

Post by msorsa » Sun Aug 03, 2008 6:41 pm

My daughter, a Finnish citizen, works in England in the hotel industry and wants to study further in that field.
Is there a distance learning institute in Finland that offers this in English?
Thank you

hotel schools - but *distance* learning? thats more of a hands-on career...unless of course you want to pay a few billion zimbabwe dollars and get a prestigious award from some Swiss diploma factory. of course theres online materials, but to get a degree in Finland you actually have to go study at least part of it in the school. the best one would be www.haaga-helia.fi , they do both tourism and hotel & restaurant management in english.

Hotel business schools are polytechnics, and polytechnics require that the person is on the place physically. She would have to be in Helsinki at least twice a week. This is from Haaga-Helias pages:

"The programme requires active attendance and participation in classes. The courses are given twice a week, starting in the afternoon at 2PM and continuing until 8PM and are conducted only once during the academic year. Studies consist of lectures in the classroom, individual study, group assignments and team projects. Part of the studies is delivered via the virtual learning platform, Moodle. At the end of each theme there will be a hospitality industry related project task. It is recommended that this work is completed in co-operation with the practical training work place, or one’s own work place (e.g. in the case of the entrepreneurs)"

and those group assignments also mean you need to meet with the group.
