Mobile Phone Plans -- Recommendations?

Post by parisdepaul » Thu Aug 07, 2008 10:28 am

I'm moving to Finland at the end of the month.

Can someone recommend a good plan? Who is the cheapest provider?

I already have a cell phone so that's not an issue.

Thanks!

Provided you can get a phone contract, try
http://www.vertaa.fi/gsm/ to compare GSM subscriptions.
if you want 3G Data, go to vertaa.fi and click on 3G liitymät 3G subscriptions ( unless you want to pay a lot of € for GPRS).

you can indeed get a prepaid card and then theres places like www.hotcom.fi to "fix" the overseas bit (but most people use skype). the thing is the phone companies don't really trust people so they tend to ask a hefty deposit unless you can prove your credit (which in the anal cases means having lived 2 years as a resident in Finland)... a prepaid you can just walk in an R-kioski and get one, some of them you can then "feed" at the ATM even...

i don't know what some posters are suggesting you. for me it's confusing. if you are looking for mobile phone subscription, here's my experience:

as soon as i got myself registered in helsinki, i went to DNA outlet and got 0.66 euro mininum monthly subscription, no questions added. just produce your passport, registeration copy from magistrati.... no hassle.. of course.. you can ask in detail regarding phone companies' different tarjous, schemes etc.

mobile phone companies in finland:
1. DNA
2. Elisa
3. Sonera
4. columbus ( as far as i know they have prepaid only... i am not sure)
5. ..... i have no other ideas...... :ochesey:

edit: when i have to make overseas calls.... i use operator number. you can ask about it from those mobile outlet personnels!!

add to that
go.fi
saunalahti.fi
tele finland
gsm suomi
cubio...

theres more operators probably but the small print differs... the main thing to know its is the three main operators (1-2 in the above post)who have their own networks, all the others are selling time...

I'm using Kolumbus Prepaid, they had a good offer: The Starterpackage with SIM-card plus 10 EUR normally costs 15 EUR and it was reduced by 50 percent.

For international calls I'm using Skype together with a country-flatrate, which is 3 EUR per month.
