I assume that was just a poor choice of words.

I would have thought that most people choose their partner on the basis of whomever they are attracted to or fall in love with. Nationality should not really come into it.

I wanted to marry my wife because she's smart, good looking, a good dancer, cool but not pretentious, and generally got her life together in a way that no other woman I've ever dated has. She could have been Martian for all I care.

Does anyone? (people who selected their wives out of a mail order catalogue need not reply).

Is spot on.

I'm still waiting for ArcticLoon to pop up with why Estonia / Finland / The US has the most attractive girls.

Mölkky-Fan wrote:- posters really should not think that what your partner says to you in this situation is really the truth. If the partner says that (s)he cannot imagine being with an Australian or Finnish or Estonian or Russian or whatever the nationality of the next poster's partner, then (s)he is either an idiot or just giving you some compliment. Of course, if (s)he finishes with you then he would look for another compatible person, and it would probably be different from your nationality. I would guess that this is either just lover's chat... not to be taken too seriously. It is my humble opinion that people in dual nationality relationships often have strong opinions about competition from the partner's own country, and I often hear from mixed relationship friends of mine comments such as 'my boyfriend/ husband says he would never again date a Brit/ Finn/ etc'. But when the male is on his own it seems he has different opinions.
Well, I don't particularly care whether or not my beau was being truthful in his comment, but I have reason to believe he was. Why wouldn't he have been, after I mentioned during the discussion that I sometimes do wonder what it would have been like to end up with a Finnish guy? No regrets though, obviously. :)

Personally, I have absolutely nothing against Australian women - after all, having lived there, some of my closest girlfriends are Aussies. Having said that, I can sort of see where my beau was coming from, as the society is different there which does affect the social norms by which one lives. For instance, many of my Australian friends are stay-at-home mums, while this does not apply to anyone in my peer group of friends in Finland (I'm 25). Only one of my Australian friends has a post-grad university degree. Obviously, this is not to say that ALL Australian women end up being stay-at-home mums with no degrees, and obviously my beau did not mean that there could ABSOLUTELY not be a single Australian woman he would find himself compatible with (I'm sure this applies to jonellequin's husband's comment on Finnish women as well), but "yksi tykkää äidistä, toinen tyttärestä". In Australia (in my opinion), being an ambitious, scientifically-minded or career-driven woman is not the norm, whereas in Finland it tends to be. My beau just happens to prefer this type.

My point is that although Finnish women get a lot of crap for not being "feminine" enough (including in posts above), I wanted to point out that what might be called traditional femininity is not universally preferred, and therefore the whole comparison discussion is not balanced if other things are not taken into consideration as well.
Finland -> Australia -> Finland -> Canada -> Finland -> the UK -> Finland

Hi guys!

I think that CONCERNING looks , my personal experience says that young Finnish women they can be over-feminine and doing lots of makeup and stuff...!! (i actually had the opposite problem, waiting for her to get it over with for 1 or 2 hours every time he went out)

BUT WHEN IT COMES TO MENTALITY................. oh gosh. I SO DONT WANNA GET INTO THAT. I think anyway we've talked about that stuff in previous posts and topics..... it's my life and for gods sake , I WANT AN EQUAL woman , not a DOMINANT one. give me a break !

That dominant feature wears off as the years go by. There comes a time when people understand that the only person they can change is themselves. And that goes to both genders.

Do you mean the FEMALE dominant feature or the dominant in general?

Thats why i choose finnish woman, looking good is one thing but giving !"#¤% about how you look and just work is more important.
I have to admit that estonian womans look good but i still choose finnish one (or asian one, mainly japanese) :)
Hard to say why, my dick dictates :)

May I ask if you live in Finland? Why you keep telling bad things about finnish ladies? That makes me wonder if some of finns has really let you down, dumped you in another words. You know.. even I consider some nations' women and men really repulsive by their outer appearance, I still don't feel any need to write it out loud :) Whatsoever... if you live in Finland, just take some estonian or russian woman to yourself and let others live as they do. And if you live outside, forget finnish women in all. It seems that you just try to provoke people hard here, just wanna argue. Or more likely - some lovely finn mermaid just gave you a good slap on your cheek :) get over it, pal and keep living. Peace... :*

jonellequin wrote:I am an Aussie girl living in Finland. My husband is Finnish and the reason why he has chosen a foreign wife is because "Finnish women try too hard to be like men". His words, not mine. They try to work like men, drink / smoke like men, talk like men. He also said that "if he wanted to be with someone that acted like a man, then he would be gay". But he's not gay, he is straight. Girls, try to retain some of your femininity. So, the opinion that Estonian women apparently dress the way they do, more power to them. I have seen some stunning Finnish women & some stunning Estonian women, who dress and behave nicely. I have also seen some Finnish and Estonian women that dress and behave like tramps. Same goes in Australia. I guess it's up to the girl how she wants to dress. Sometimes I want to dress like a tramp to get attention, but sometimes I want to dress conservatively too. It depends on the situation. Big deal.......why judge! If they are stealing the Finnish men, maybe the Finnish women are missing something they need to find again.....

I don't know if this "Aussie girl" is the first girl posting here. But I've found her words so good, clearly making sense. Oh, thank God there are girls like her around... Kiitos! :D

It seems like this forum is constantly fill with this 'women vs men, women from country x vs finnish women, men from country x vs finnish men' kinda threads etc etc :P. So the mysteries of the opposite sex still intrigue huh? It seems more heated at times these debates than finland vs sweden hockey or something :P. Gee whiz, "hooray for stereotyping"! I'm sure everyone has individual reasons for loving their partners regardless of what country they are from. Cultural differences exist for sure, but you're loving them, hopefully as someone unique, so you shouldn't have to associate their whole country or culture with them and turn it into a battle of the sexes/countries etc :P

yeah, no need to stereoptype, in the core all women are just golddigging wicked djinns intending to destroy men regardless of their country of origin.
