Hi,
I believe these are the one to detect speeding. They calculate the average speed that you have been driving between the two points and see if you have been speeding. Slowly, it might be old times, when one can over speed everywhere, but near the cameras.
I am not sure if the systems have been activated though!
warm regards
Karthikesh

Were the cameras on the roadside, or higher up (on bridges, poles) ?
I believe they are here to monitor traffic conditions and assist traffic regulations in real time.

they are higher up, but i was speeding many times, i didn´t receive anything! i think it´s just a camera maybe to check the safety or belt or mobile, i dont think that finnish police is gonna invest much for this kind of machine!! and in night if it would be a radar it would blink but nothing happened!!NanaM wrote:Were the cameras on the roadside, or higher up (on bridges, poles) ?

ok, so
- if its a big TLR on a pole its a speed camera
- if its on a bridge or a high pole its one of those "traffic flow" internet cameras
- if its on a shorter pole with all kinds of gizmos its one of those tiehallinto cameras
- if its a white or red van with darkened windows(or a flash in the dark), you've just been screwed...
and also just in the news, the police had such a backlog as they had "better things to do" but now they've gotten "civil service" guys filtering the photos so a lot more lotto wins are going out. kind of funny they'd employ the anti-establishment hippies and anarchists to the police station but then again the military rookies have a more pressing job - the military police was testing the new voting system in parliament (they can press button on order)...

I'd still be wary of them as it looks like HD cameras capable of sending in license regn. ( License plate tracking and ave. speed tracking are basically back-end jobs once you have a picture and a time stamp).
Tiehallinto cameras are published but then why would they be hesitant not to publish the new 500 that is "wireless" ?
I never underestimate the poliisi or the Security ( including net security... )

you are far away from the "stupid foreigner" category... you are now in the "you should know better being a Finn" category
.. bad choice as it doesn't excuse you no more...
