Car scrapping

Post by cooldude_1983 » Wed Aug 13, 2008 8:40 pm

I searched for scrapping a car, but could not find much info on this BB

I have a car which is pretty old and has got a problem which for repair might takesomething like 700€.

I instead would scrap the car as I am not going to stay longer here. Any pointers for car scrapping near Jyväskylä? Also the best deal and tips would be apreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers!

But if you want to integrate, you take the plates off and dump it next to the road :(

Why? It doesn´t cost anything to ask some Romu Keinänen to come and pick it up. Scrapping a car is free, nobody has to leave anything beside the road.

I think it has become less now but it is not uncommon to see cars with smashed windows and without plates beside the road after they gave their last breath, I think the phonecall was too much for the owner.

I don´t remember seeing those in years. It happened when it cost money, but it is very rare nowadays. It is likely that such a car has died on the roadside and the owner has walked away. Then some vandal das found his amusement in pounding in the windows. I really don´t remember when I saw one last time.

If they come and collect the car, they often ask a transport fee.

Didn´t ask anything from me. And even took the old washing machine and a rusty bike at the same time.

To my opinion it is anyhow less in summer than winter (logically). I could not understand why they could not find the owners, probably too much work (locate serial nr.)

Anyone who wants just has to go to A-katsaustus sign the papers and tell the wherabouts of the car - I think this is an ongoing canpaign, saw it at the inpection and can't be arsed to google it ;)

Contact them, let them know what you've got and also why you're giving it up. They might pay for it, more if the car parts are in demand. I had an old car with a broken window and was offered 50 euro to take it to Tartarsuo. But the car would not start, so they picked for free.

And if they do you know they are conmen as scrap cars are fetching €50 upwards without any "transport" fee. Usually these unlicenced scrap people fix the car up and sell it and get paid twice for the same job...

Just phone around a bit and you will make some money on it.
