If anyone tells me the steps to follow it will be helpful.
How about doing a google search of "finland" and "insurance". You will surely get links to the major insurance companies. Otherwise, there are a bunch of threads on this forum about difference insurance companies, just do a search.
When you have the names of the companies, take a look at their websites for info or visit their offices to ask.

Ok, first the disclaimer. I know nothing about this insurance company and I have no idea what kind of insurance coverage (beyond the minimum required to get a Residence Permit) you require, but maybe this is a place to start. They are particularly targeting international students currently living in Finland and they do have a customer service telephone number.

The most important thing to do is read the details of any policy. What do they cover and MOST IMPORTANTLY, what DON"T they cover. A Web side such as squaremouth.com lets you do side by side comparisons of policies.

If you are applying from Nepal. Everest Insurance (Hattisar, P. O. Box 10675, Kathmandu, Nepal; Tel : 01-4425758, 4444717, 4444718; Fax : 977-1-4444366 E-mail :
eveinsco@mos.com.np; URL :
www.everestinsurance.com ) would be a good idea. Not suprisingly Embassy of Finland recommends that incase of Nepal as well. The cost is US $ 250.
I also have a question.
While renewing my permit next year can I submit the insurance from Nepal similar to the one I've just submitted?

Hi Alex,
I am the president of International Student Insurance and wanted to reassure you about the quality of our insurance plans and service, and our commitment to international education. We provide insurance to thousands of international students in Finland, and have been the leading provider since the new regulations were passed in September 2007.
We have been in business for over 10 years and have an excellent reputation throughout the international education industry, with an A+ rating with the BBB online reliability program:
http://northeastflorida.bbb.org/report. ... 288&wlcl=y Although as you point out we are in Florida (no doubt a dodgy state!), we have a local Finland phone number +358-942599502, a branch office in Germany and staff that are trained specifically in the needs of international students in Finland.
Here's our Finland Student Insurance page that covers the plans, prices, and procedures:

Thanks to the Finland Forum for making this discourse possible!
Best regards,
Keith Clausen

Hi, I have also doubt with US insurance companies. In fact Chinese and other nationalities friends of me had problems with US companies through internationalstudentinsurance as they are very strict and often not pay your medical bills if you are ill or in case of an accident. This companies sales through the website internationalstudentinsurance (AIG - AON or Multinational Underwriter etc...) Also Michael Moore's Film Sicko
http://www.michaelmoore.com/sicko/index.html gives a very large impression of US health insurance companies which are very oriented of profit.
I advice to my friends European companies which are more serious like ihi or local insurance companies or I'm insured by the company Swisscare
http://www.swisscare.ch/plan_finland.html which is a Swiss/Dutch health insurance company and the quality of service is very high (European norms)
Annual insurance is only EUR 448 without general limitation of the insurance sum !!! and including thirdparty liability and much more... you have to see it on
http://www.swisscare.ch/plan_finland.html[/url].
This is my contribution on reputable student health insurance providers.
Cheers !

You will anyway have to have a written proof of insurance when you arrive in Finland, so ask the insurance company to send you one, attach it/copy of it to the residence permit application.

Hello,
For me it was very easy. With the company Swisscare as have not a credit card in Iran, a simple bank transfer was also accepted.
I received the insurance certificate by email and the Finnish embassy in Tehran accepted without problems the certificate. It is possible that embassies ask you to send them a signed documents. In this case you can ask Swisscare to scan a document with signature.

Could anyone please help me choose an insurance company? Specifically, I'm choosing between Swisscare International (swisscare.ch) and Atlas International (available at internationalstudentinsurance.com). Both are included in the list of insurance companies available at migri.fi, so I think the Immigration Service wouldn't have any problem with them. Although the duration of my studies is two years, I wouldn't like to to rely on local municipal health care services only, so it's either 100000+ EUR from Swisscare or 200000 USD from Atlas International. Swisscare is a bit more expensive, but that's not important. Which one would you recommend?
And one more thing: I believe that both companies offer 'online fulfillment', i.e. all documents will be sent to my email address after the purchase, so I'll just need to print them out. The question is, would the Immigration Service accept such documents without any question, or should I ask them to send me something bearing a signature?
