You have a problem with 6 ft slender brazillian birds sunbathing at the beach?

(Love watching beach volleyball but yeah - a joke really)

You can say what you want about the UK, we get knocked for everything these days - but at least we know how to take the piss.

(Friends Vs Blackadder....)
Made me giggle, too... he seems a likeable codger, and secretly I approved of his diatribe about maudlin sentimentality even if he did pick the wrong target in Hillsborough. But as I suggested on the Hot thread*, I'm not sure how well his stand-up played OUTSIDE the Brit audience. Is he trying to get the home fans onside first, before he takes Manhattan and Berlin? Even the Beeb woman wondered if all wasn't going to be a bit lost on the rest of the world. Not much use being funny to one lot and completely incomprehensible to the rest... (especially as Britain seems sadly to be extremely well-equipped with people who think it's all going to be a colossal disaster and he's a Hooray Henry anyway...)

And "whiff-whaff" sounds a little too much like "riff-raff" for comfort. :)

*Edited to add: Ooo-er. This IS the "hot" thread. My bad.

Yeah - I am sure a lot of folk hadn't a clue...But there is so much negativity in the UK towards the Olympics (towards anything we try and do) that I am sure he's just getting the home fans on his side and have a bit of a positive attitude...But then again I can't blame people for having half a glass empty...The average man on the street has been kicked in the teeth, let down and been dissapointed for so long

But he seems like one those drunk lovable buffoons...I've never heard of the guy until I saw the Olympics stuff...Don;t keep up with Brit politics.

To quote Bill Bailey, perhaps not quite verbatim but still: "I'm English and as such I crave disappointment... it's not the winning; it's the taking part. Or actually, it's not the taking part; it's the sense of futile despair."

I hate that British bollocks of 'taking part that counts' - bollocks - it's about winning and if you can't win then kick the crap out of the nearest French man or German.

That's what real sport is about...hell, if you DO win then kick the crap out of them for losing...

It's one of the biggest differences between the Brit and Finn sporting attitude...Finns play to win...we play to take part..

You have created a post here that features many beautiful women, I look at the women in these pictures and I can see their beauty. I also see women who have dedicated their lives to competition. I see women who go to means beyond us all to be at the top of their sport. The sacrifice, determination and drive these women must have to look the way they do and to compete at the level they do is astonishing.

I have to admit, whether it's cheerleaders, real athletes , models or Hollywood stars I am always left feeling a bit uneasy around your threads. I can look at a picture of a women or even see a women out in public and apply an amount of attractiveness to her. But then what?

Perhaps it is that for me when applying beauty to another human being, physical attractiveness is just one piece among many that contribute to overall beauty. There is a lot more to human beings then just outside aesthetics. And if there is not well that's a sad thought.

I have the feeling I see something very different than you do, when I look at these pictures. I'm curious what do you see when you look at these women?
Jamie, I think you're overthinking. I appreciate their physical beauty. For these olympians, I also appreciate that most are incredible, world-class atheletes who have reached the top of their professions through incredible discipline, hard work and sacrifice.
