meatballs

Post by Pursuivant » Tue Aug 26, 2008 11:57 pm

the ilta-rag had an interesting survey & rant that "meatballs" should come a "protected food" lbel in the EU, as Swedes and Finns and some extent the other Nordics thrive on these... funny in the survey I just was to LIDL and picked up my cheap ones I know are semi-edible (I usually hate ready-made ones)... they're 14% "meat" and the rest is... offal & removed parts  well, my idea is to better them with mushroom sauce... and then start chewing on the jahtimakkara...

Are those lidl meatballs called meatballs? I mean can you really call it a meatball if its only 14% meat? I think they should call it just "Balls (with 14% meat)" hehe.

Extremely Nordic.
I have meatball recipes from all over the world: India, Turkey, Greece, Russia, Italy, Morocco, Germany – even a country called "Yogoslavia".

I think they had in mind the "swedish meatballs"... the survey had at its top the ones they sell at IKEA.

I like those Ikea meatballs - not as good as my grandmother's but still nice nonetheless :)
