Ikea - which one?

Hey, another n00b here. Arrived in Helsinki and need the standard Ikea stuff. I heard they have trucks you can rent there. Anyone know how it works? How much? Where can you return them in Helsinki?

And which one? Espoo or Vantaa?

The one in Vantaa is a bit bigger I think (they have a bigger selection of sofas at least).
If you buy things there, I guess the easiest is to go to the desk just after you pay, there you can get things delivered to your home. Yes, it costs, but it can be more convenient than renting a truck of your own I think. If you live in Espoo it is cheaper to get deliveries from the Espoo IKEA, if you live in Vantaa the delivery is cheaper from the Vantaa one. If you live in Helsinki I don't think there is any difference (might be depending on which part of Helsinki you live in).
If you wish, you can pay a bit extra and get an extra guy to come deliver the stuff (I did that when I bought a sofa, had two of them carrying it up the stairs for me).

we've had loads (all of our furniture) delivered from our several trips to Ikea. if memory serves correctly, the delivery cost was something like 50 euro, but certainly no more than 80 euro, for each batch of stuff. not at all expensive, and extremely convenient.

It's about 25e for 2 hours from ikea for a transit van, then an hourly rate after that although i can't remember how much. Don't quote me on that though. You can't hire/reserve beforehand (or it's not worth it) as the rental charge is effective as soon as you sign the paper so you buy first hire later.
Your local Teboil Garage if big enough rents too, but if you haven't decided what you're buying the hours and hours of strolling around might bump up the cost.

If you rent the Ikea van/trailer you have to take it back to Ikea.

If you have a car (with a tow bar) then you can rent a trailer from eg: a Shell petrol station.

Ikea has deliver service. under 200kg is 49euro for same area eg. ESPOO-ESPOO. 69EURO inside Helsinki region. I think this one is nice.

I went this weekend with the free bus and picked up a few things. Decided against buying big furniture for now. Thanks for all the tips.

I have a Travel Card for Helsinki and I want to go to Ikea. I think it's in Vantaa or Espoo and I don't want to pay extra fee.

There is no mention of a free bus in the new catalogue.
But you could call them and ask:

free bus on saturdays leaves from kiasma (museum of contemp. art)

vantaa - 9,11,1,3
espoo - 10, 12 and can't remember other times

vantaa is the newer, bigger one. get to kiasma early to make sure you get a seat on the bus.

Wow that's so cool! They don't have that kind of service here. What a great idea. I can see that that will come in handy when we first arrive in Finland and have no car. We can take the bus to Ikea and get them to deliver everything to our place. You gotta love Ikea

Nuu ya don't. I have contempt for Ikea and I haven't even failed to put any of their stuff together. Ya could look for a close by salvos within carrying distance and save a lot of money

Salvos are a rip off - here they are at least. Often you can buy something new cheaper than second hand stuff from Salvos or St Vinnies. I must say though that some stuff at Ikea is getting expensive. But when they have a sale they really have a sale. Most of all I love the style of Ikea stuff.
