Buying a second hand car + insurance etc .
I was thinking of buying a second hand car soon, preferably something cheap and was just wondering how much i would be expected to pay for one?
The price seems to be about double over here compared to Ireland, is there any reason for this ? or is that just the way the market is over here?
My last car in Ireland was a Volvo, so i think i would like to get one again.
Also, would insurance be more expensive because i`m Irish?
Cheers,
John

If you buy something cheap you need the obligatory insurance only (not kasko). To my knowledge they do not like to give bonus on that one, except when you have evidence from Ireland that you had bonus there. Well I think good volvo's are popular here too so might keep your eyes open for other brands if you want a cheap and good one. Cars are not the only thing expensive here
The only way is to import but forget about that if you want a cheap one (difference gets smaller all the time and you do not have any history, try to get one from one or max. two owners).

Do you mean like comprehensive insurance (ie against theft, damage etc)?johngibbons6155 wrote:I was thinking of buying a second hand car soon, preferably something cheap and was just wondering how much i would be expected to pay for one?

He said cheap car (so at least 5 year old I guess) Normal people do not buy kasko insurance (you get money when it is your fault or when it is stolen etc.) for these cars (too expensive for what you get).

OK, theres mandatory traffic you have to have, which depends on the size of the car, your age, where you live etc... then there is full-kasko thats for new cars that basically covers if someone farts next to the car and it needs to get washed. for older cars its silly to get, but what you get is a part-kasko that covers moose-theft-fire-collision usually. my car has mandatory traffic for abt 380 a year and then the moose-theft-fire for was it 80 euros per year.
anyone who does not have moose-fire-theft-collision is an idiot who should take the bus... same brand of creatures who don't belong to an unemployment fund nor have a homeowners insurance...

we have to finance the shower pressure and not having carpetted bogs with something - so luxury items like cars got a "temporary" tax in 1958... but as people saidjohngibbons6155 wrote: The price seems to be about double over here compared to Ireland, is there any reason for this ?

thats a new car... 10-15 years is old ennough to be cheap, but it depends on the mileage - a 1 year old taxi vs. granny drove to church only from 1973 can both have 100 000 in the meter...Rick1 wrote:He said cheap car (so at least 5 year old I guess)

OK , I just found a used car site >
http://www.porssilehdet.fi/bilar-1/search_car.html
Half of the site doesn`t even work and I spotted a Volvo 850 exactly the same as mine (the one i had in Ireland but with half the millage ) for E4200. FOOKING CRAZY!
I would not expect to pay more than E1000 for that!
I`ve been surprised a few times over here like the bullsh1t that is trying to get a tax number (I even have to get a Finnish I.D. just to send money abroad with my finnish account , WTF?) but that takes the complete piss...................
I wonder if you get a free tub of Vaseline with the car, because you would need it if you want to get f*cked like that!

I would recommend www.nettiauto.com and www.autotalli.com . As for prices: markets decide them and government keeps rest of Europe out of them by car tax and taxing even that car tax...johngibbons6155 wrote:OK , I just found a used car site >

Re: Buying a second hand car + insurance etc .
I bought my Twingo for €4500. I'll drive it for 60,000 km and sell it for €3800.Seems Finnish people are used to it or have too much money
My tax rebate basically pays for the gasoline, insurance (€400 - based on uk licence and haggling) and depreciation. All you need is the original €4500 outlay - which you don't lose.
So where's the problem?

Problem solved John: buy a twingo and it will cover everything

Da*mn!! After many years, I find out that even if I have comprehensive insurance coverage, I need "extra" coverage to cover any Car rental when its my/SO's fault. So there goes a lot of €€ for car rental..not that it would have gone for insurance for the last 4-5 yrs..but would have been nice to cover that too!!

Probably 600-800 if they give you one - its for new cars, not bangers.
