Need advice for health care

Post by umit » Sun Sep 07, 2008 1:49 am

Hi all,

Last week I took my wife to a private women clinic/health care centre upon recommendation of a friend. We got the early pregnancy examination done there. I was a little bit disappointed with the treatment. The doctor was in kind of a hurry like "You are done, next please".

This saturday at around 22:00 my wife had severe pain in the abdomen, so I took her to emergency service of women clinic of university hospital at Töölö (I don't know the exact name of this hospital, this is what I understood). I think this place is classified as "public". But, the treatment was perfect here. The nurses and the doctor were very nice and helpful. They understood very well that we are an inexperienced couple and did their best to give us a relief. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to take public health care in normal conditions.

Would anyone recommend a good private health care clinic specialized in pregnancy, where I can take my wife for regular controls and call a doctor whenever we need consultation.

Thanks in advance.

Actually on that night I went to Mehiläinen first, they said they don't have women's clinic and forwarded me to university hospital. Did they mean they don't have women's clinic service at that time of the day??

As for the coverage, my employer pays all health care expences as long as the treatment is a necessary one.

Try Eira hospital. For example one of their gynecologists - Viveca Söderstöm-Anttila - is very nice and symphatetic. I have been her patient, and she has the air of reassurance floating around her. I can imagine your wife would feel good as her patient. AND if you want, you can also give birth there. You find the hospital´s pages with contact info here: http://62.236.201.170/

Ups, I gave you wrong information. Eira has closed its maternity ward. Pity. But Viveca Söderström-Anttila is still there, so your wife should really check her out.

It looks like all the births in Helsinki happen nowadays in two places: Naistenklinikka (the one you have already visited) and Kätilöopisto. Both are public maternity hospitals.

If something like that pain happens again, just go straight to Naistenklinikka. All the private places would just send you there anyway.

EP, thank you very much for your reply. It is extremely helpful. We will try Dr. Viveca Söderström-Anttila next time.
