Hi!
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to buy red snapper fish in helsinki? Or a good fresh fish shop where they have a good selection?

Thanks!

I think it is punamullo. Check the fish counters in the marhet halls (Hakaniemi and Old Kauppahalli next to Kauppatori). Check also bigger markets fish counters.

red snapper=lutjanus campechanus (caribbean fish)
punamullo=keltajuovamullo=mullus surmuletus (mediterranean fish)
puna-ahven= punasimppu= sebastes marinus (north atlantic fish)

yeah, they're all red and live in da sea

Well...I was wondering as well...so I found these in wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_snapper_(fish)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mullus_surmuletus
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastes_marinus

...so I guess they all have a different flavour and texture...

I first had the Caribbean version in Mexico about twenty-five years ago...I thought it was absolutely terrific...and in fact I still tend to think of it in terms of its Spanish name...Huachinango... Maybe it was the way it's prepared in Mexican dishes...but it was great.... :thumbsup:

The other two versions I know nothing about... :)
