Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour is coming to Helsinki on October 7th and 8th. This tour shows award winning films from the festival of the same name. Films are from around the world and in English or with English subtitles. From the brochure:
“Travelling from remote landscapes and cultures to up close and personal with adrenaline-packed action sports, the 2007/2008 World Tour is an exhilarating and provocative exploration of the mountain world."
The showings will be 2 hours 5 minutes, plus intermission. Seven films – from 5 minutes to a 52 minute feature, “Searching for the Coast Wolves” (Canada - British Columbia). The other films cover a range from skiing, ice climbing (in caves in sweden !), unicycle, mountain biking and an animated “tale of a badger who just wants the world to let him sleep.” Each night is the same bill. Event is ok for kids (who can take the length), but the brochure does say one of the ski films uses “coarse language.”
If you fancy a chance to see something different - films you’re unlikely to catch otherwise – I highly recommend going. Unpaid endorsement! I caught the tour earlier in the spring and found the Coast Wolves film interesting. Didn't see the other films as the lineup changes in each region.
