This isn't as fancy as the one Richard had posted, couldn't get that far with my skills but I did have to try since I promised the 3 year old. The inside was a lemon sponge cake with strawberry jam. I had to temporarily amputate Barbie while she was in the cake (too tall)

, but it worked out okay in the end. Thanks Karen for the advice on the cream, it held the strawberries really well. And most important of all she was a very happy little girl and she got to keep the doll afterwards too.

You did a great job! I've been waiting for the picture. Now that you've got your feet wet, there's no telling what you'll come up with for next year. My birthday is in a couple of weeks and I think I'm going to make myself a cake.

Nice one RA! I wish someone made me a cake for my birthday
So exactly how do you "temporarily amputate" a Barbie? do their legs come off and you can put them back on again? (yes, I had a Barbie deprived childhood

)or I guess the other option is to have her sitting down...
I'd love to give this a go for one of my little neices birthdays

The legs came off, then I wrapped her with clingfilm and after the cake was had, put the legs back on.
The ladybirds were edible. I've actually been itching to try something else.... maybe when I get my own kitchen again. We moved in with my in-laws two days after that cake as we are like my daughter tells everybody we're homeless. A bit over a month to go....

ahhh... tricky... good thinking though! I guess the other option is wrapping her body in a plastic freezer bag and elastic banding around her upper waist area. I suppose you had to be careful with her clothes not getting cream and stuff on them. I guess a bit of cream would wash off okay though.
