so for the example of the band my answer would have been: "IF WE WANT A NEW BAND MEMBER WE HOLD AUDITIONS" and then I'd gone to chew off a pigeon's head.

I'm saying lastly, read the simple example about the band above and if you want you'll get my position (you're not so stupid I suppose), I think first and second answers in the example are normal and last one is impolite and offensive without any reason. That's all.
Dude, Get real!! The successful stories that you are going to find involve money lots of high educations and connection in high places..
The problem is that your band example would eb a perfect fit for Liverpool or suburbs of Frisco...or Seattle..Not here..
your example clearly shows how well you know the culture here..
In Finland, if you approach a band without a drummer and you are a pro.. The answer you will get is.
We dont need a drummer we are fine without one....
Your style is useless.
If we want a drummer, we know pekka..
your answer about sibileus academy might very well be the answer you will get..
So, Change your thought process and learn to think like a Finn..
I am saying this after going through my own experience... If you dont try to understand the Culture here, how do you expect people to respect you when you are wanting the whole culture to change to accommodate you?

Interesting things I hear...
I smell nationalism here... "If we want a drummer, we know pekka.." "your answer about sibileus academy might very well be the answer you will get.." if everyone thought like this none of foreigners would live/survive in finland. is that what you want? Hope not!! (If yes, @#$% you, Hitler kaput)

As you say, If you need something - you know pekka, so what is the meaning to change my way of thinking? I'm not Pekka and would never change my name to it and if I would think like you're, then I've no chance to survive and I should kill myself immediately.
Moreover, if I would change my way of thinking when I read you replies first time, I would never come here and it would be the biggest mistake in my life. So judge yourself how good your "way of thinking" is...
You call rudeness as a part of the culture. I think I should have some discussion with finns I know about that.

:D :D yes of course, you wait when the band members will come and ask "dude we need a new member and would you like to take participation in our auditions?" or maybe it's right if you are Pekka.

If you knew how you are wrong...

Keeping the spirts high... get your folio printed, look up some designers and roll up at their door... Thinking like a finn or not you need to put yourself out there. Starting a new bussiness in a new country would be gutsy...but if you think you can find a market and are up for a challange you don't have much to loose as your currently looking for work.

Find out what programs are required in Finland and Train yourself in them, or take a course... most designers are computer based these days so keep yourself up to date...

Keeping the mind active and on the goal can only help...the rest is down to what you can do and some luck.

Roses can be bought on the street from gypsys...you will find them near the train station
Living one day at a time.

ah see now stupid foreigner - *we* define what is rude and not your holiness
for me "rude" is taking a crap on someones porch and then ringing a doorbell and complaining there is no paper
that is "rude" - the idiot should have brought his own.

Ah see genius, you define what is rude?? :D And who are you? Just one of the Finn (if you are) and not all the Finns are like you, so shut a @#$% up and don't generalize your !"#¤% for all the Finns.

Everything is much simpler than you want it to be:

I'm saying you are rude and cynic and you're just moaning how hard is life in Finland and foreigners should see it, so I'm saying that it can be said more polite way, but YOU (raamv) SAY that I am NOT familiar with finnish culture and I should start thinking "Finnish way".
What would be your summary of it please?

(thanks god I know really good Finnish guys and I won't believe that cynicism and unfriendliness is part of the culture)

And to summarize our "discussion", as I said if I would change my mind easily by listening couple of cynics from 5 million people I would die. So go and burst with anger in the nearest pub , cause you are just couple of unfriendly guys who don't quite like foreigners and know Pekka if they need something (again Hitler kaput).
