Salsa/Jive?

Post by zeanna » Sun Sep 21, 2008 11:15 pm

Hello =)
Im thinking of going to a dance class in Helsinki... maybe salsa or jive (lol) ! Ive seen a few adverts here and there, but I wondered if anyone had any personal or word of mouth recommendations? The classes don't have to be in English &I do realise im maybe a bit late for the fall intake.
Thanks =)

Well, actually I have been to salsa classes in all those schools. They are all good schools, but different teachers tend to emphasize different aspects (some put more stress on moves, others are rhythmically more pedantic, others want to ensure dancing is fun etc, really depends on the teacher). If you a beginner, i suggest you try the school which is more convenient for you (time/place), and then later perhaps try others (teachers and schools). Carlos in BailaBaila is always a good choice, he is a real sweetheart.

Alppila salsa social mentioned on that dragon website is organised by private persons (Henni&co) and they teach CROSSBODY salsa (cuban salsa is more dominant in Finland). You can find info about it, comments and calendar on that Salsa in finland website (it covers basically all the occasions related to Salsa, Bachata, Reggeaton etc in Finland)

My fault :), my reply was not very detailed. a bit hurried.... basically, better to try different teachers and choose which one is more of your taste. sometimes it also depends what kind of people are in your group. good luck. salsa is nice but there is a serious shortage of dancing men in finland, so drag a male friend with you (that is if you a woman).
