If you go down in the woods today..watch out..

This time of the year it is berry and mushroom picking season.

It is also the time when this guy and his family are looking for a meal before Winter sleep.
The main danger is to Fido ...Best keep him on his lead.
I took this photo close to a popular spot in Espoo.
There are warning signs on the notice board stating that dogs must be kept on lead.
No dog owners seem to be able to read them though.

Well, to healthy adult they are not overly dangerous. Specially if you wear suitable footwear.

But to child, pet, unhealthy or anyone out in the sticks without any help available they can be lethal.

Could be. Apparently English-speaking jobs for saints were scarce in Finland at the time, and he didn't have enough squirrel skins to cover his stay in Finland.

"DeTant Blomhat" :)

SH, yes there are a few different snake varieties here. Only the adder ("kyy" in Finnish) is poisonous. You'll find it featuring in Finnish art as well, for example in this famous fresco and this feature from the Tampere Cathedral.

The other snake we have is "rantakäärme" - judging by its Latin name, in English it is "European Grass Snake". The name should be updated to European Union Grass snake maybe?

That's not a snake...

Now this is a snake. Australian Taipan.

And, it turns out the evidence left by the "bear" in Ahvenisto in Hämeenlinna was left by a horse with a stomach problem...

I go jogging a lot in the forests in and around Kirkkonummi and have seen a bunch of snakes there all summer and now this fall it seems there are even more out. Most of them are pretty small though. Only once have I seen one as big as the one in this post.
