Sorry, but a Walther P22 target(the gun that he was shooting with in the videos) is very well suited to target shooting.

Umm not what is says here..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walther_P22_Target
The P22 is regarded by many firearms enthusiasts as being a modestly priced "plinker" suitable for handgun training, recreational, and other general rimfire use

A plinker...refers to informal target shooting done at non-traditional targets such as tin cans, glass bottles, and balloons filled with water.

As Pursuivant says there is no reason that a Target shooting enthusiast needs a semi automatic..permits for only single shot without clip.

Seriously, you can practice target shooting with that weapon, although there are far better options for that(more expensive,of course)

you can practice target shooting with an air gun and a muzzle loader as well... I'd prefer giving a muzzle loader as the first gun

I am sorry to nitpick again, but clip and magazine are different things.

I agree that maybe there should be more training involved when getting permit for gun. Maybe something like drivers license? So if you have been shooting for years before you apply for permit, it would be like it is now, but if you are just starting to shoot as hobby, you must take lessons before you can get permit and buy a gun.

I saw one of the early web/blogs of his (now removed) and it was a photo captioned.
"me and my PP" yes in English.
The PP's cartridge has two options one of which is.0.22LR.
It is classified as "semi automatic". But it can empty, at a target it*s magazine (8 rounds) in about 7 seconds.

Yup, I know. That's why when I read "Automatic Fire" and "many dead", I wondered if the weapon was really the "Semi-Automatic" pistol that was in his videos.

PS Without wishing to be a pedant, you can squeeze off the 8 rounds much much quicker than 7 seconds. 7 seconds is probably the figure for "aimed shots".

EDIY: Sorry you said "at target", missed that.

Would need to check if it is really so you don't need a licence nor an import permit for an airgun

well, it seems we have there a bona fide copycat

Saari bought his Walther pistol from the same store in Jokela that had supplied Auvinen with his own Sig Sauer semi-automatic.

Might also put OECD Pisa ratings into another context. Wonder how many parties of foreigners my offspring will be showing around school this term (two of them are in a school that is on the OECD milk round). :?

Possibly, but putting too much blame or indeed responsibility on schools... dunno. I think it can already be too late at that stage for the "worst cases". There's a limit to the extent a school can repair damage originating from home, unfortunately. I don't mean to belittle the importance of school counselling and intervention (against bullying and all that) but all the same if we think that "school" should act as some sort of a surrogate "parent" then something is wrong indeed.

I agree. Something is wrong. But I also think that parents are ill-equipped to cope these days and life is such that they have too little time to deal with the problems faced by their kids (which are more complex than generations ago). eg: How many parents out there actually know how to monitor exactly what their kids are doing on the internet? My guess: not many (and I include myself in that number).

If schools do not want to assume the role of surrogate parents then they have to be more open to parents and dialogue with parents. In fact they need to be more proactive in encouraging parents to come in to school. Many Finns I have spoken to do not even know the name of their children's homeroom teacher, or even the name of the headmaster of the school :?
