I am indeed as thick as a whale omelette, this comes as no news to myself; but maybe you can enlighten me please and somehow prove to me how...

a) what you (and possibly also your cat) think your neighbours should accept from you

and

b) what your neighbours actually accept from you

... always necessarily mean one and the same thing.

Meanwhile, I'll jump into some gravy wearing a funny nose and go "eek ekke ekk" at passers-by, as is my usual habit on Fridays. I hope the neighbours do not mind if I do that on their back yard for a change. After all it's not specifically forbidden.

(I do not live in Matinkylä btw, so it's not me!)

Since there are so many shrewd and mature people of high moral grounds on this board, I would like to ask for your advices on another neighoring issue. Suppose I am a heavy smoker, and the best place for me to smoke is my bacolny, and thus my neighbor gets annoyed almost everyday because some somke pysically comes to their bacolny as well, does my neigbor has right to ask me to stop smoking in my bacony either personally or through housing company? Thanks

Yes, off course.
It depends on the renting contract and general regulations if she can force you to stop.

That's the point. If all three examples do not break any laws, presumed victims have no legal rights to ask other to stop their habits. They can either choose to complain by not talking to "perpetrators" or simply smile and ignore it - this depends how people tolerate other people of different opinions and habits. This is the only point I am trying to make here.

actually, there has been bans of "balcony smoking" in various parts of the country. onkko can check the tampere court that found the ban on smoking on a balcony valid in April 2006. however the appeals court has overturned a smoking ban decision in 2008.

so yes your neighbor can ask you anything, and you can choose to do it or not. but the question is if you don't do it will the neighbor rip your cats head off?

So if we have faith in the Finnish legal system. Occassional balcony smoking is legal. But it's another story if one invites 100 people to smoke at his balcony at the same time to purposefully annoy his neighbors. It's unbelievable that I am accused of purposefully annoying my neighbors by occassionaly let my cat roam free. Yes, my neighbor can kill my cat, but I believe that breaks laws.

But you are purposefully annoying your neighbors by letting your cat run free.

I really cannot understand this logic. If I had trained my cat to go to their yards or stare or mew at them and then let the cat run free, I am intentionally annoy them. But since this is not the case, I do not accept that the purpose of me letting my cat run free occassionally is to annoy my neighbors. Even if my neighbors are annoyed by either sighting of the cat in their yard or public places, or by me letting the cat run free, as long as both do not break any laws, they pretty much cannot do anything. This is just like that people have the right to get annoyed by smelling smokes in their balcony now and then, but they cannot take any legal actions by accusing smoking neighbors purposefully annoy them. The only solution is that both parties learn to be tolerant to each other.

It breaks hunting act and public order act, solution is catch your cat and deliver it to munincipal "lost animals" shelter or telling pollice. Youll learn after you pay few times.
So its not just like smoking.

Would you like to see your cat like this?

I came to this board for the purpose of asking a pointer for me to decide whether I break any laws for occasionally letting my cat run free. But unfortunately most replies are far from helpful - including this one.

Ok, you asked if it breaks and i told it breaks and what laws it breaks and what neighbours can do.. Unhelpful indeed. What else you want?
