Looking for a place in Helsinki that serves decent falafels

Post by jelle » Wed Oct 15, 2008 7:34 pm

Hi there

Any vegetarian in Finland will have probably ordered falafel at some kebab place. And most likely you will have wondered " what is this?" Because you know, the cooking of the falafel is usually done by heating the frozen premade falafels in the microwave. The result is a soggy, watery ball that is covered with some sort of tomatosauce of which the water is all evaporated. Oh yeah, it's bad.

So, i am looking for places (preferably just ordinary kebabplaces) in Helsinki where they at least have the decency to deepfry the falafelballs instead microwaving. I am not expecting that they make the falafel fresh on the spot (like it is done in every other country in the world) but i just cannot stand those soggy falafels anylonger!

So far i have found that there is this oriental place in Forum that does this the right way (name escapes me) and El Karim (that famous pizzaplace in Koskelantie)

Any body else know more?

Thanks!

My local pizza place deep fries the falafel. I have a standing special order for the pita falafel (a list of things I don't want on it) or sometimes I get the falafel with rice. The restaurant is in Viherlaakso, Espoo.
