Here’s
an opinion piece about the plan... in Finnish.
Thanks Jukka Aho... I hadn't seen that before.
There were originally several sites but a few have already been crossed off the list. I went to a couple of information/protest meetings. If I understand correctly the proposed site in Friisilä has recently been classified as a site of natural interest (like an SSSI in English) so fingers crossed it won't come here.
The plant has to be close to the sea but above sea level (which is why Suomenoja was not viable) and built on bedrock (most of it will be underground). It will take waste from all over Espoo and also Vihti, Nuumelä etc. The construction will take several years (in the video it says 5 yrs but I thought it was longer than that) and involve hundreds and hundreds of trucks taking granite away from the site, explosions, etc etc. Pipes will have to be sunk deep into the ground down to the coast causing a lot of local disruption. There will be a HUGE chimney above the plant (so you don't want to be downwind of that either).
I guess all the residents in the affected areas are just CONFUSED... why do they have to build this plant in a high population density area???? I guess the obvious solution would be to build it in Suurpelto (empty field - nobody to complain) but it would have an impact on the value of housing there which would have political implications since the City Council is already in deep s**t with that project (can't attract any businesses to the area).

well I think he is - after all all the ecohippies rally for "accepting diversity" so now they'd need to put their money where their mouth is and accept diversity - or then confess that they only accept people not committing "thought crimes" as defined by the ecofascists.
mind you though - theres an ever kookier candidate in Turku who already is in the council.

You mean Mäenpää? He doesn't seem that kooky to me, he always pretends he loves the negroes when he's at Inter Turku games. He is of course very, very stupid.

That's the 'very, very stupid' bit. He's been asked about this and has the usual tiwazian guff about 'immigrants with jobs are good, I like Bantamoi'. He's deeply unpleasant, and I find it very amusing that he supports a team run by Swedish speakers and foreigners, and has to justify his hypocrisy.

I mean his idea of these "safety patrols" isn't anything new nor objectionable as is. maybe just dressing them up in the "blue&white" was a bit over the top.

It seems to be pretty close to what you and tiwaz are advocating. It's retarded and stupid and hypocritical, of course, but he's a politician and there are plenty of idiots that'll vote for that !"#¤%. Like you and Tiwaz, for instance.
I know how he's treated at the football, and find that very very funny.

sorry, wrong city
and what do you find objectionable in the "neighbourhood watch" or "guardian angels"? of course if there was enough police officers on the beat there wouldn't be a need for train patrols would there? theres been a number of youth organizations in Helsinki patrolling the subways and the centre. would it not be time for the greens and put their love patrols to kaisaniemi park as well?

Finland has very little crime. If you start 'watching' everyone you'll go mental.

I should think I have very little to tell rape survivors about psychological trauma.

What type of electoral system is in use in Finland with municipal elections?
For instance what happens to votes going to non-elected candidates?
