Accountant needs a job near Turku
I am American who just recently graduated form US university with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. I majored in accounting. I am eligible to sit for the CPA exam. I just moved to Turku in September. Fluent in spoken and written English obviously. I am married to a Finnish citizen and have my residence card. I just started learning Finnish. My wife will be studying here for the next 5 years. Meaning I will be here for the next five years. I have six months of experience at a professional level. So far I have been unsuccessful at finding work. Any suggestions on were to look or who is hiring? I am open to anything. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you

hmm and What good an American CPA help in Following Finnish accounting systems?
If you are IFRS or FARS, then mebbe you have a chance in a multinational provided they need someone desperately.
Start with the Biotech companies in the Bioparks in Turku and see if any of them might be hiring.
Personal networking or from your wife's connections will help immensely.
http://www.mol.fi/paikat/
and input your accounting keywords in the field "Sanahaku".
e.g. accounting keyword gives 24 open positions
If you want only turku are then in the maakunta field, use varsinais-Suomi.
which currently doesnt have any positions.

Thank you for the reply. I do understand FARS as that's what we were taught in school. I am also familiar with IFRS and some of the differences between the too. Unfortunately my wife is from Rovaniemi and has no connections here since we just moved here in September. I hoping more that I can be of use internally for companies since most companies use similar internal accounting methods. Thanks for the help I will start checking bio tech companies.

It also helps if you know some "commonly used tool"... though in Finland it might be TERP and then you're shafted... SAP modules are excellent on a CV. what I would also suggest look at the local polytechnics if they have on the "open side" any accounting/tax/law courses available in English. even if it is kids stuff you get a chance to get into the "Finnish thinking" which is essential as "when a foreigner thinks the bailiff of the tax office winks"... and for an American it sobers up when you realise that almost everyone does their own taxes and only criminals know lawyers... you need one only after you've died.

Ya I have never even heard of SAP before I got and I don't know what TERP is. I just graduated so I have used quick books which I don't think they use here. That's crazy really everyone does there own taxes. I am worked as a tax intern and I didn't even do my own taxes. My parents claimed me as a dependent so they did my taxes. Ya I will look at the polytechnics. Maybe they'll have classes in SAP.
thanks
thanks

thats cos Vero is way too straightforward compared to the IRS...JBRasmussen wrote:Ya I have never even heard of SAP before I got and I don't know what TERP is. I did my own taxes when I was in the US and I went through almost all the publications at least once and then its a breeze when you need only updates for the next year..
and so Vero is way too straightforward when you need to file one and get your refund if need be..
SAP is pretty much an European accounting tool...and also Asian companies prefer that!!
