Travel in pregancy??
My husband and I plan to fly to either North Africa or Spain during Christmas holiday. At that time according to the schedule, I shall be pregnant aournd 14w (passed the first 3 months). As my understanding, the baby should be safe from 4th to 6th months. But all my friends try to persuade me of not taking any airlines during the whole pregancy esp. for a woman in my age (a 35 years old pregant woman is quite "old" in my home country and should be take very care of.)
Dears, what did you think?

Re: Travel in pregancy??
I have been traveling during my pregnancy without any problems*. I haven't done any flights longer than 4 hours. The nurse and doctor said that it wasn't a problem as long as you and the baby are healthy and feel fine. Drink enough during the flights, try to walk around and get some extra legs space.
I think other will confirm that it shouldn't be a problem, especially at 14w when then nausea is gone and your belly isn't that big!
Good luck,
GIGI

Gigi speaks the truth
My wife was flying to London (3 hrs) well after 14 weeks and she was completely fine. If you feel healthy when you board, I wouldn't think you have anything to worry about.

I flew in early pregnancy and also when I was somewhere around 20-25 weeks. I only did flights under 3 hours and it was fine. Get some of those flight socks that go upto your knees to wear.

Re: Travel in pregancy??
In period when i was 22-27th week i traveled in plane to Greece and back, to Prague and back, from Prague to Serbia and back, and i didnt have any troubles. In Serbia they asked me how long ima pregnant, coz i looked bigger than 27 weeks then. I think limit is 28 weeks, for some air companies is maybe 30th week. You should ask about that, or simply just take some paper with you where doctor say that ure okay to travel.
How ever, dont worry, if you feel okay, your baby will also be okay. He/she is in 5 star hotel so be sure that baby will be fine. And you are not old... My sister in law is older than you but she traveled without any troubles and she was i think 25th week of opregnancy then (she traveled to Egypt). If pregnancy is normal, no troubles, you are 100% safe to enjoy and travel where ever you want.

If I understand correctly, most airlines require a doctor's note about the duration of pregnancy as well as that there have been no complications, starting from 28 weeks. But, it would be safer to have that note a little before, just in case the airline "gets suspicious". The neuvola should be able to help. It's up to the airline how far along they take you, but generally I think up to at least 34 weeks.
In pregnancy there's a slightly elevated risk for deep vein thrombosis, that's why the flight socks, plenty of moving around and enough to drink are a good idea. Flying itself should pose no risk for an uncomplicated pregnancy, regardless the age of the mother. (Airlines just want to avoid someone going into labor in air!)
But as the OP will be flying only 14 weeks pregnant, my guess is neither she or the airline personell will notice a thing.

Re: Travel in pregancy??
Thanks dears, finally we plan to book the ticket and hotel in Malaga, Spain!! Sunshine and sea food!!!!
But, according to Gigi, Finnbrit, Sara, Dianas' experience, I think less than 3-4 hrs airline travel will be safter, therefore, I have to cancel my plan back to my hometown which takes around 9 hrs one way. What a pity.
BTW, my situtation is not stable, sometimes I feel pretty well, just like beofore the pregnancy, but 1 day later, the belly hurts many times even in the evening. Therefore, I guess avoid the longer trip will be safer for an"old woman" like me:)
Thanks everybody.

Hi Sabrina,
I really hope it will all be ok and you will have some sun and fun in Spain!
In 2 weeks I am going to Brazil to spend christmas and New Year's eve with my family, I will be 18 weeks pregnant. It is a loooong trip, many hours on the plain with 2 connections, so I really hope I am not doing something risky for my baby. I asked different doctors in Finland, US and Brazil and they all said it is ok as long as we are feeling well.
Fingers crossed and good vibes,
Claudia

Dear Claudia,
17 w is quite safe for the air travel, dont worry you will be fine. (somebody talks about the radiation harm to the baby during the long trip airlines, but by far, there is no evidence.) Let's hear your Christmas experience in Brazil after you comming back! What Gigi empharsize is correct, be sure to "have plenty of moving around and enough to drink."
