Bizarre Internet connection in an apartment building..

Post by Cod » Sat Nov 15, 2008 7:56 pm

..just curious, is it possible the use a standard ADSL modem rather than something like a 'Netsys NH-300SP Ethernet homePNA 1.1' to pick up a signal in an apartment block internet system

I mean, is the signal that comes down the line completely different...since in order to go wireless, I'ld have to add a wireless router to the Netsys modem, which is kinda clumsy..

..here's the Netsys router which is seems that needs to be bought..

You got that wrong, its HomePNA as in http://www.verkkokauppa.com/popups/prodinfo.php?id=5183 not adsl. Or it might be ADSL from your building to net, but from your apartment to the basement of your building, it is HomePNA

so today's new word is PNA

thanks for the super quick reply, it does seem though that in order to run a wireless connection I have to connect the ZyXCEL modem-router to the Netsys HomePNA modem since the Netsys doesn't seem to come with a wireless option.

a bit clunky, but I guess it works.

Thanks again for the fast reply

We just moved and our ISP lost our connection so to speak. They were supposed to have connected it on the 31st, and my husband actually got online once and encrypted the connection, but after that nothing would work. So a few phone calls and they tell us, no we can't find your connection anywhere, there's no connection for this address. It took them 4 days to to trace back the problem... apparentely on the day we'd made the contract they had some technical problems with their database and all that day's orders were lost. Then somehow some internet connection was made, but through our tv-cable. And no-one knows how the hubby got online that day. And he actually did, because later, we found the encryptions as he'd made them. Bizarre... but I'm online again so I'm happy, no more running around to our last lodgings jes' to get online.
