Why are Finnish Police such Fascists?
Why are Finnish Police such Fascists?
Yet nobody talks about it openly. My Finnish wife and I were treated like garbage by Finnish cops during a traffic stop in the presence of our children. They approached us in an overly aggressive manner and constantly insisted that we have an attitude problem after we tried to enquire as to what the purpose of the stop was. I know of several other cases where friends and family members have undergone similar or worse treatment. People fear police in this society. Police have way too much authority.
I love living here but unfortunately I don't feel the police serve or protect me.

It has improved since the 60s, when they really were akin to the Gestapo.
Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Police can stop you when they want.
Police can check your driving licence/insurances/etc whenever they want.
Police can ask you to alcohol/drug tests when youre driving and you will comply with good or bad.
you arent kansas anymore dorothy..
If you bitch and whine they wont be nice to you.
Conclusion, you have a attitude problem.

No they don´t.People fear police in this society.
Well, in that case you are in the minority. According to the latest Eurobarometer 91% of people in Finland trust the police.I don't feel the police serve or protect me.

Okay, Yeah! And welcome to all of you too. It was 4pm, taking kids home from school. Breathaliser, license and registration all fine yet still I was interrogated about what I was doing here and where I was going for no reason. Maybe they were hoping to find something illegal since I'm brown.Pursuivant wrote:well what was the traffic stop for? bushradar? morning breath?
By the response I got here I'm surprised the next thing you say isn't go back to where you came from. Very smart people you are!
I thought this was a forum at least partially for foreigners to speak about their experiences in Finland. Yes, we are a minority, duh! Foreigners are not 91% of the Finnish population.EP wrote:No they don´t.People fear police in this society.

My wife wanted our kids to have some experience of living in Finland since she comes from here so we moved over here from Amsterdam where I was born and raised. No country is perfect but if speaking about bad things I've experienced in this society is banned on this forum then my bad. Have a nice sheltered life.
Re: Why are Finnish Police such Fascists?
So perfectly normal stop and questions. I usually answer that im looking something to rob and im going to better hunting place since youre here.
Problem again is your attitude.

Unfortunately, you (not your wife) fit the profile of a group of people who are responsible for a majority of crimes that occur in Finland. The police were simply doing their job. You were not put in jail, you were not deported, you were not beat up or required to pay a huge bribe. Be thankful that you're in Finland where the police only talked to you for a few minutes to verify your identity and purpose. If you are a "white" person in some of the "brown" countries, your life may end abruptly if you are stopped by the police.discourse wrote:Okay, Yeah! And welcome to all of you too. Socialism has never managed to create anything beyond corpses, poverty and oppression.
Re: Why are Finnish Police such Fascists?
The police has been having some breathalizing campaign this month. The time of the day carries no importance, nor the fact that there are children in the car. They breathalize even older women like me. It is to catch DRUNKEN DRIVERS, it is not a plot against you. Just do as you are told, breathe 0 %, and they wish you a nice day.Breathaliser
Onkko is right, you have an attitude problem.
Re: Why are Finnish Police such Fascists?
I have been breathalyzed many times without any issues.. If you are free of guilt, then why do you have to fear?
and just remember, they are doing their job to keep the society safe as we all would like it to be..

Re: Why are Finnish Police such Fascists?
Well i can honestly say my experiences with thr Finnish police have been far from great either. they dont seem to want to help but like to have you run after them. My car is stolen, i have to come to them, I catch someone using a stolen Credit Card in a bar, I have to again go running after them to make statements and when they forget part of it i have to return again to them to correct it. and as for the saga of being accused of animal cruelty based on my dogs being too skinny with hair that was spikey and grey
then taking the dogs to custody without making any attempts to contact me or inform me they had them. but that was explained as a mistake for which no apology was made nor compensation offered despite it costing me a couple hundred euros to sort not to mention the stress iof the whole matter.
So i am afraid i agree with the above. The police are supposed to be there to serve the public
and just for the record i too have ben stopped and breathalysed and this was a harmless affair where they even let me stay in the car made me blow into the machine and sent me on my way all with about2words said from them

Stick that in the cliché thread and put a crown on it.

I can't believe I am hearing this. I own a business here, I employ Fins, I pay my taxes like everyone else. So I deserve what I got because of the colour of my skin? Show me a statistic that shows that people of colour do most of the crime in this country. You are basically defending racial profiling.mrjimsfc wrote:Unfortunately, you (not your wife) fit the profile of a group of people who are responsible for a majority of crimes that occur in Finland. I as an EU citizen and legal resident of Finland should not have to fear being persecuted or singled out for "special" questioning inside a police van while my kids cry in my car all because of the way I look.
I had no problem being breathalised or having my driver's licence checked. What I did have a problem with was the overly aggressive and heavy handed attitude of the police. What is so wrong with asking a police officer why you were stopped? They could have simply said it was a routine check.

If as you say you didn´t bring it on yourself with your attitude to the stop then you should make a complaint, Every police force has some bad apples, but it is unfair to taint all Finnish police with the same brush,
Let us know how you get on
