Why are Finnish Police such Fascists?
Re: Why are Finnish Police such Fascists?
It is very simple really; the police asks the questions, you answer them. Not the other way around.
They are Finns and they don't like unnecessary chatting.

I am with you on this. I have had so many problems with the cops this last summer and fall. They are jerks (I say that cause I guess I shouldn't use stronger language on this forum). Its not just the color of your skin that sets them off they are just a$$holes. They think they run this country. I admit that I was first stopped for speeding and was wrong for that but it doesn't mean I should be treated like scum. I was polite to them did what they asked and had everything that the needed to see, yet they still made rude unnecessary comments about things. The second time I was stopped by them it was "just to check" on things. I again tried to be nice and gave everything they needed but then asked them politely why did they choose me to check this evening? They got really mad at that and said they can do whatever they want and if they want to pull me over then they will. I said to them that I have rights too and deserve a polite professional response not some attitude from cops in a bad mood. They didn't like that either and made me come to their car. They said that they can check whoever they want and I should just comply. I reminded them that I am doing everything they ask so what is their problem. They then ran my info through their computer, came up with nothing, and said I could go.
I also have had issues at the police station. When I changed my license from a US one to Finnish one I had asked them why do I have to give up my US license, to get a Finnish one, when its not even valid here any more. The lady said she doesn't know and went somewhere else to ask. She came back, said she still doesn't know and said that I can have my US license. She took a photo copy and gave it to me. Ten minutes after leaving she called me really mad and asked how come I lied to her and demanded that I bring back the US license. She said that the license is still valid and I must bring it back right away or they won't process my Finnish license application. She said all kinds of things about me lying and how deceitful I was and on and on. Well I brought it back and asked them at what point did I lie, I said that the license is not valid in Finland anymore so what's the big deal to have it. It's dumb that every time I want to visit the US, I have to take the Finnish license to the police station and trade it. Then come and trade it back when I return. She said thats just how it goes. By this time I was really mad and told her that I don't like being called a liar and wanted to talk to her boss. Her boss wasn't in and she started saying sorry about that and that she was having a bad day and blah blah blah. It was good enough for me that she said sorry, but if I don't see anything wrong if you made a written complaint.
About a month ago I was coming home from a night in town (not drinking
and in our neighbor hood was a drunk driver. This lady was backing over these traffic signs again and again. At first I thought it was just a woman driver scared and messing up, but when her car finally stopped and I thought it'd be safe to drive passed I got close enough to tell her she was driving over the signs but saw that she was totally wasted. I got out of her way so she wouldn't hit my car and called the police. The car drove off but I gave the license plate number and details about the driver and car. They said to call back if I see her again, well a few min later she drove by again half on the road half on the grass so I got back in my car and called the cops and they told me to followed her from a safe distance and they would patch me through to a patrol car. I was telling the cops what streets she was turning to etc. like they were asking me to do when the cop yelled at me, "shut up, just shut up for a min. I don't want to hear you talking!" That was so funny because I was just then trying to tell him that the driver was turning down a new road which you would think would be important information. Anyway, I told him that I am just trying to help and that if its not good enough I can hang up. He asked again the street name, I told him and he didn't say anything. About 30 seconds later they drove passed me I said there you go and they hung up the phone. Not even a thanks. We didn't stop and just went home from there.
I feel the same way about the Finnish police as you do now. They should give us the same respect that they want to have. I am not perfect, and I make mistakes, but the police are not any better than we are they are just people too.

ah, which of course you told us exactly what happened, how about next time trying to be a bit more obscure.discourse wrote: or singled out for "special" questioning inside a police van while my kids cry in my car
as they were having their theme week they did catch 18 people they were looking for... they do catch most of their looked after people in routine traffic control... basically you or the car might have resembled someone they were wanting. I got pulled over very abruptly with quite extensive questioning a few years back. I guess that was because I had long hair and a beard and resembled someone in a similar car as I was pulled over some 3 times within six months or so... as I know what fascists they are I didn't ask "why", the "because" might have come with a billyclub.
if you have an official complaint theres appropriate channels. of course there is a chance you'll get pulled over for routine checks daily.

yeah, it is a bit silly, but it says so in the law, so its not up to you or her or her boss really. thats just how it goes. It's dumb that every time I want to visit the US, I have to take the Finnish license to the police station and trade it. Yeah I know its not up to them personally. But they are the ones enforcing the rule so you'd think they would know. But I guess they don't know anything, they just work therePursuivant wrote:yeah, it is a bit silly, but it says so in the law, so its not up to you or her or her boss really. thats just how it goes. It's dumb that every time I want to visit the US, I have to take the Finnish license to the police station and trade it. Re: Why are Finnish Police such Fascists?
well it does make sense in a sense. the licence you get in lieu of your Finnish licence is your proof to be driving. so say you have heavy pedal and they take it to rest, you could still continue driving with your foreign licence... well, you don't need a licence for driving...
and *any* bureaucracy in Finland is " don't know I just work here"....
well, what can we say? bad cop no donut?

Actually, if I was to get my license suspended because of speeding and they took my Finnish license, then the next day I went out cruising and got pulled over again and showed them my US license. I would still get in trouble because its no longer valid in Finland. I have been living here too long. That, plus they would have on record that I have a heavy foot and a suspended license. That's why it makes no sense in any sense

But you have a point about the donuts, maybe we should take a box to the police station and they would get more friendly. Or maybe they are mad that they don't have as many donut shops in Finland as in the US and are taking their frustrations out on me?

Quite. This is the problem in Finland, that people don't believe the police fit anyone up. All police forces everywhere do that.ChubbyPoacher wrote:@#$% !"#¤% w4#73r @#$% £$€¤%&.raamv wrote: If you are free of guilt, then why do you have to fear?

You all need to remember, the system in Holland is far more relaxed.

discourse - i'm so sorry. When i asked what country are you from i didn't mean to be asking what nationality are you. I meant to ask what are the police like in the country you are from. It's just that i've heard that the police here are quite friendly, and though i haven't had very much to do with them myself, the experiences we have had have been very friendly and efficient.
I hope you didn't think i was implying that the police here are racist in any way.

I guess it would be a bad thing if you end up with two licenses that could be valid "somewhere"

Re: Why are Finnish Police such Fascists?
The problem is that I as a US citizen I would rather use my US license while driving around in the US, and now I gotta make a visit to the police station every time I go there. When I need to show ID in the US, the drivers license is the most commonly used and lets say I am using my US bank account while there and paying with my US credit/debit cards and they want an ID. It would just be easier for us all if my ID was also US. Same with renting a car, dealing with the cops, etc. Being in the US and from the US it would then make things easier for all sides if my license was also US. Its just annoying, and my right to say soMook wrote:but Finnish licenses are valid in the US, what's the problem? It's dumb that every time I want to visit the US, I have to take the Finnish license to the police station and trade it. Re: Why are Finnish Police such Fascists?
If you go to buy or rent a car, or even borrow one from your friend, it is their problem to find out if you can legally drive. And only way for them to check that is by checking your driving license. If someone gives car to person who should not drive (as in no license or in no condition to drive) they can be prosecuted.jas_rho wrote: Actually, if I was to get my license suspended because of speeding and they took my Finnish license, then the next day I went out cruising and got pulled over again and showed them my US license.
