To the Americans Living in Finland
To the Americans Living in Finland
It's Christmas time again, I need some help with Christmas gift ideas. What is popular there with kids ages 8 & 12? What can't you buy there that they might like there? Any type of clothing? I forgot to add that these are boys. One year I bought these laser tag guns and last year I bought them Robosapien and the roboraptor. I needed to buy them stock in energizer due to all the batteries that they take. So I am looking for ideas of something that might the boys might like. I also want to know if you can you buy Liz Claiborne , Banana Republic or the Gap over there? I still have parents & g'parents to buy for as well. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Kiitos

Just to clarify - you're buying gifts for American boys living in Finland who are aged 8 & 12, and buying gifts for your parents and your grandparents who are also living here, right?

Kupcake - you can check more details on this same question Millie posted last year.

Thanks Karhu - got it.Karhunkoski wrote:Kupcake - you can check more details on this same question Millie posted last year.
Millie, i know this sounds cheesy, but what about American junk food? Most of the American kids i know really miss their junk food and Pop Tarts (and other imports) are REALLY expensive here. Just a thought ...
Can't help with toys though - my boys are past toys. They just want the money ....

No these are Finnish kids. Hence the reason I am asking what is popular for kids over there. I may send pretzels (US pretzels) since I know that they can't get those things and the parents like them, but someone suggested things or clothes that they can't get over here. I bought a Liz Claiborne purse & coin purse for the grandma. My kids played football, baseball & soccer. Street hockey...might be a bit difficult..lol Kupcake, my post was 2 years ago. Last year I thought those robots were pretty cool. I will look and see if people posted some new information though. Thank you. Fads come & go. When I was there, rockabilly was popular (that dates me) Kids wore their canvas belts looped through the band and it hung down in front. If any one else has some suggestions I would be will grateful. Is Scrabble really popular over there? I could send them that. What do you think?

Does Batman ever go out of date? He is still my hereo
sigh.. along with Luke Skywalker
I just need to know the fad this year in Finland. My daughter went a couple of years ago and she said that the oldest would probably like chain jewelry, but I would rather not send goth junk.

It seems to me that boys that age like anything to do with Mylie Cyrus (however she actually spells it.)

I have a 12 year old boy.
He plays football, also likes salibandy and ice hockey. So sports gear and tickets are
He is starting to show a vague interest in clothes. Roll and roll T shirts
He plays guitar hero and various PC games.
He listens to music.
He watches DVDs (fun stuff like Simpsons)
He knits pipos.
He will only play board games if we are at the mökki, but he does quite enjoy them (Scrabble is only OK if they can play in English because you can't play scrabble in Finnish with the English letters - may be stating the obvious here, sorry), also enjoys playing cards.
Reads. Books are OK, as long as not too many.
Money.
