Mobile spam. How do u get rid of it?

Post by enting15 » Sun Dec 07, 2008 10:45 am

It's very annoying to receive those spam in your phone. I don't understand Finnish and these companies keep on sending messages. Please help me get rid of it. Is there an anti spam software that i can install in my phone. Or maybe i should change my number then.

Never give your bloody number if you do not have to. And learn to read every line in every paper you fill.

One had this cunning trick with checkbox. Usually checkbox is "If you want us to send you advertisement, check this box".

In this (Anttila) paper it was "If you do not want us to send you advertisements, check this box".

SO did not read the paper and was dumbstruck when I checked my box. And then felt even worse when she realized that she had dropped her slip into collection box.

Bottom line, change number. And learn Finnish. Because else you WILL agree to variety of stupid things.

I don’t recall ever receiving any SMS spam to my Finnish cell phone number from any other company than my service provider (Elisa) – and even their marketing messages could be opted out [1], which I promptly did.

I wonder if you have typed in your phone number to various forms (when e.g. e-shopping around) and then inadvertently forgot to uncheck any checkboxes which would subscribe you to some marketing SMS list or the other. Have you previously done any business with the companies that are sending you these messages?

[1] Except just yesterday, Elisa sent me an MMS with a picture of the Finnish flag, to conmemorate the Independence Day... but that message didn’t contain any actual advertising material in it... and I think it’s a one-off thing, as I don’t recall getting anything like that from them before.

those checkboxes are a bane... I did add my GSM number to a couple places when I ordered so as the mail delivery can call me to get in, but didn't mean it for being used to get the latest offers...

Something wicked this way comes."
