visa electron - internet - optia

Post by mpjacko » Thu Dec 11, 2008 10:35 am

Hi,

I am banking with optia "saastopankki" and i have been using a visa electron for the past year. Its ok to use but i can't buy anything off the internet. I want to buy some ryanair tickets next year and to save costs i want to pay my visa electron which is free to use. However i can't.

I don't want to get a visa card as i only want to spend what is in my account. Is it possible to get my visa electron activated for the internet i.e paying a yearly fee or is there another type of card i can use.

Many thanks for your advice. I,ve tried to explain but it didn't go to well.

Visa Electron is not a credit card it is a payment card so it cannot be used for Internet transactions.

I have a visa electron from nordea. Somewhere in the preferences menu of the internet banking page, I activated "internet transactions" option and now I can use it for internet shopping. It should be similar in your bank...

I know but its a debit card which debits money from your account via electronic transfer. In the UK you can easily pay things on the internet using your visa electron. It just that in the Uk they give it to anyone under 18

In regards to "I have a visa electron from nordea. Somewhere in the preferences menu of the internet banking page, I activated "internet transactions" option and now I can use it for internet shopping. It should be similar in your bank..."

whats the finnish word for the preference menu and what words should i look for to activate internet transaction?

Why dont you go to your bank and ask for help?
optia "saastopankki" is probably not the same as Nordea.

I see signs in many places saying "Visa Electron not accepted" no idea why.

EDIT...Google and you will find.

http://www.corporate.visa.com/md/fs/con ... adebit.jsp
It says.."Internet transactions can also be supported, at the issuer’s discretion."

So go to your bank and ask.

my guess is that when you pay with visa electron, it can take even a couple of days for payment and shops don't wanna wait till next sunshine :) the reason being that visa electron unlike credit card takes a longer time to be processed esp. when the transaction is between two different banks but not the case within the same bank

That's bullcrap. Electron queries are most usually handled in a matter of seconds.

It mainly can not be used in some places because Electron needs an active **** connection (I don't know what type of a connection it needs but still... it needs a some sort of a connection :D) that the shops don't have, but nowadays you can pay with it almost anywhere

Edit/P.S: Been paying with electron over the internet to american and other foreign companies since 06...

my guess was based on the online trasanction as i thought visa electron is a part of online trasanction. now.. after a wiki journey for a while, seems my earlier guess was wrong (bullcrap you can say, i don't mind  ).. yes it needs a connection .... have been using nordea electron myself and making some international payments.... so OP should contact the concerned bank as has been suggested before
