Hi
I have a question regarding how to issue a payable check to person who is not in Finland. Is it possible for a "Foobar Oy" to send a check to that person? What can I do in this case? How much is the fee? I will probably ask the local bank but I really need good advice on this case.
Regards

What do you mean by a "payable check"?
If you want to send money to someone in another country you just do a cross-border transfer using the recipient's IBAN number. You can do it yourself on-line if you have internet access to your account (at least with Nordea it is possible). If it is in euro within the euro zone there is no fee. If you are sending outside the eurozone then you can either pay the fee here or request that the fee be paid by the recipient's bank. You can also choose whether you send euro or another currency (in the case of the latter you will pay the currency exchange here in Finland).
I have never heard of a Finnish bank issuing a paper check. They would probably charge an arm and a leg to do so.
The other alternative (company to company) is to ask your bank for a Letter of Credit. Your bank will tell you how to do this.

I've never heard Finnish banks issuing a paper check either, but they could probably do it.
I've once tried to cash a £54 personal check made payable to me. Cashing it in would've cost me €90 which was more than the check was worth.
I've also once made an international transfer through the bank's paper work (i.e. not through the internet) and that cost me close to €30 in fees.

banks have international cashier checques. I think it should be possible for about a 40 or so... must have jacked the prices up since the 1980's
