Question about changing employers.

Post by network_engineer » Fri Jan 30, 2009 4:12 pm

Hello!

A question on the effect of changing employers with regard to unemployment benefits (particularly from the union (yeah, I will contact them too, just thought somebody here might have an idea)).

1) Supposing one has been working for an employer for a considerable period of time and changes to another employer. How does it affect benefits from the union unemployment fund and Kela in case of a) layoff or b) redundancy?

2) Most employers have a probation period. What if the employer decides (for whatever reason) not to continue with an employee after or during those four months? How does it affect the unemployment benefits?

Thanks a lot.

Same union is not an issue..different Union might be one...
and I am not sure if you joined the union directly or through the company..so it might have a slight impact on communication and paperwork..
But its always better to contact the union rep. directly ( not the company union rep. but the union rep..)..
1) AFAIK, it doesnt matter if you change companies in terms of lay off or redundancy...
2) It depends on the case...If you have the testing period...and get layoff, the Unions generally support you, but it depends on whether the unemployment office buys the argument or not..and since the benefits are determined by the unemployment office recognizing whether you are unemployed without probation or not..unions cant do a thing there..
hope this helps..
