Where can i buy oak wood from?
hi all !
i need to find somewhere in the helsinki area where they sell oak.
ie oak beams, planks all diffrent sizes... i suppose the ideal place would be a salvage yard, or a building materials recliamers yard. if there is such a place ???. Thanks =)

It is probably not appropriate but they might be able to point you in the right direction, if you looking for genuine old stuff there is a place in Porvoo ( 50 km form Helsinki ) that sells ' used stuff' or ' old ' hardware spares :

Actually it's in Billnäs. They sell doors and windows and stuff like that but would probably know where to get the reclaimed timber. The place is called the Rakennus Apteeki or something like that. I tried to google but couldn't find it. They have odd opening hours, so don't drive all that way without calling first. We got some old windows for the cabin from there last year. Cost us a fraction of the price for new ones... but we spent the whole of the summer trying to scrape the paint off and get them in good shape. Hopefully we'll get them in soon. Bit dark in the log cabin with no windowsPursuivant wrote:And Fiskars also has one of those recycle places.

Oak only grows along the south coast and maybe 100km in land...(?) so there isn't much growing naturally and it grows ever so slowly up here. If you do find some oak, chances are it isn't Finnish.
