HUOM! Ruoholahti parking
HUOM! Ruoholahti parking
You are warned forthwith...
I sometimes park and ride: park in Ruoholahti car park for 3h for FREE and then 1€ for the next hour and then 1.50€ for the next. Then I take the metro into the centre or wherever I am working. IOW I could park for 4 hours for 1€ and save myself the 8€ bus fare from Espoo. Generally speaking, I take the bus but sometimes it is more convenient to drive, especially outside of the rush hour, if I am only staying in town for 3-4 hours.
Well.... this morning I drove into town for the first time this month and parked at 09:35 in Ruoholahti carpark. I picked up my car at about 2pm so I was expecting to pay 2.50€ for the car park.
I paid 16€
The new tarif came into effect on 2nd February:
1st hour 1€
2nd hour 3€
subsequent hours 4€ per hour
I guess the new tarif is posted somewhere, but not in big green neon numbers.
(PS I ranted and raged into the loudspeaker on the ticket machine, but the man inside had obviously heard it all before and was not going to give me a refund!!!)

Re: HUOM! Ruoholahti parking
Why is it €8 per day via bus from Espoo?
I thought the buses in HKI area were something like €2,20?

Re: HUOM! Ruoholahti parking
Yeah, same happened to me yesterday. I just wanted to check something at Verkkokaupppa. I couldn't find any free parking place along the road and decided to go in the parking. And not more than 15 minutes later I tried to leave but the machine didn't let me go
It asked for 1 euro! I left my car there and looked for payment automat. Since I have never used one before it was difficult to find it
Anyway, I think in this global crisis everybody is desperate for any penny they can get... Same applies to me I will never use that parking again, to save my 1 euro!

Agreed, especially those who think that "Hki area" covers Espoo. Utter cretins.rob34 wrote:"HKI area"sinikala wrote:They are ... but Espoo is not in Hki is it? The clue is in the name ... Espoo is in... Espoo!rob34 wrote:Why is it €8 per day via bus from Espoo?

Re: HUOM! Ruoholahti parking
Hmmm.....Bus = €4 each way......not bad! It costs you that much just for gasoline when you drive the 18 to 20 kilometers each way and then you have to pay for parking. If you have the time to spare, ride the bus and let Ruoholahti try to collect for empty parking spaces. It shouldn't take them long to figure it out and change back to where they were.
Socialism has never managed to create anything beyond corpses, poverty and oppression.

Could you do me a favour and translate "area" into Finnish? ...And then take a look at the link you posted?sinikala wrote:Agreed, especially those who think that "Hki area" covers Espoo. Utter cretins.rob34 wrote:"HKI area"sinikala wrote:

Are you really this stupid? Is anyone??
Wouldn't it just be easier to say, "Nope, the bus costs 4€ to get from Esbo to Downtown."?
Re: HUOM! Ruoholahti parking
Well, OK, maybe I'm just being mean, now. But I'll be jacked if your response didn't rub me the wrong way.rob34 wrote:Could you do me a favour and translate "area" into Finnish? ...And then take a look at the link you posted?sinikala wrote:Agreed, especially those who think that "Hki area" covers Espoo. The first post of the thread told you how much it was.rob34 wrote:Wouldn't it just be easier to say, "Nope, the bus costs 4€ to get from Esbo to Downtown."?
Pääkaupunkiseutu = HEV.
Do you really care? Thought not, and I don't either, so let's move it along eh?

It was in the papers, like... even I never park there I knew of it. Jebus gives "everybody knows" woman... try skimming the local before putting it under the parrakeet or ax the kids.penelope wrote:You are warned forthwith...

Re: HUOM! Ruoholahti parking
Yes, I usually take the bus because it is quicker but the nature of my job is such that it often costs me more than 8€ because I have to move from one lesson to another Herttoniemi, then Hakaniemi, then Kamppi during the day. It soon mounts up. OTOH I am not in town every day of the week (I sometimes work in Espoo) so it isn't worth me getting a time-period matkakorti. I try and optimise my costs based on where I am working and the time of day (I never use the car in rush hours) - Sometimes it really makes economic sense to use the car at least it did before the parking fee hike. (BTW I have a diesel and could probably do 100km on 8 litres / euros of the stuff)mrjimsfc wrote:Hmmm.....Bus = €4 each way......not bad! I read HS most days at breakfast but I never saw anything about the Ruoholahti car park. No, I don't read the Länsiväylä (it takes me long enough to work my way thru Hesari). Just thought I would share my grief with fellow commuters and possibly save someone a few euros....
What do commuters with the city centre matkakorti do if they drive to Ruoholahti and all the metro-parking allocations have gone? Drive all the way home and come in again by train? Does anyone know approx at what time the metro-parking allocation runs out???
