Cycling Holiday

Post by jamie_designer » Sun Feb 15, 2009 8:03 pm

Hello Everyone
As we all spread out over Finland and some people here may be more well traveled with in Finland then myself, I was hoping to get some insight from whom ever has any they want to share.

I have some friends who are planning to come over from Canada this summer to visit, we are thinking about doing a fairly lengthy bicycle tour when they are here. I'm thinking 8 to 10 days of cycling with a total distance of 1000 km. MAX. 1250 km

I have considered the following tours
Turku to Mariehamn to Turku ( exploring the Archipelago )
Joensuu to Rauma ( through lake district )
Lapland Tour ( have no route in mind )

If anyone has any other ideas or suggestions I would appreciate you posting them. I would love to hear about tours you may have done on bike, in car as long as it could translate to bike) or places you have heard are nice. We are looking for a tough bike ride, nice scenery along the way, etc.

Also I have been trying to find the "hilliest" part of Finland. Where could we go to ride long steep hills, or hills that will really make you work in Finland?

Thanks in advance
cheers
Jamie

The island route is the most popular but you have a lot of ferry stops. As Canadians have never seen any trees nor tundra Joensuu-Rauma would be surely phenomenal (How about around Lake Saimaa and the Punkaharju). As Canadians obviously can cycle in a mosquito net the Lapland in the summer sounds just so... prickling -though then over to Norway and the seacoast would be high hills & cetera and phenomenal scenery.
