Are you feeling Hormi?

Post by thedamage » Mon Feb 23, 2009 8:19 am

Anyone know of a good Chimney renovation specialist? We've been told to get our fireplace fixed before we can use it. Any contacts welcome. BTW 'Hormi' means chimney in Finnish.

Cheers.

Check this out. It's the umbrella organization for chimney sweepers and maintainers. Maybe they have some info you can use.

If you're in a kerrostalo, the easist thing is to get the talonmies to recomend someone. (For instance, in Helsinki there are only one or two).

'Hormi' means chimney in Finnish
Almost, but not quite. "Savupiippu" means chimney, "hormi" is the passage between chimney and fireplace.

"hormi" is a "flue" in English

I've a Turku contact but I am not sure if it's what you want - i think they do really old kinda restoration type things....

I don't have a phone number but I should bump into them in a few days or so.

We live in Helsinki. I've had a quote of 176 Euros per metre of chimney regardless of the state of the chimney. I wanted another quote to check if was realistic or not. I'm not sure if the whole chimney needs fixing, but at 6m tall it's going to be quite a fortune!

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers.

damage - did you buy something that resembled your former camper van's roofline? (yeah its your brummy-sounding man here)

theres these linings you can do. which is good but costs a bit... then again you don't need to worry about fires...
