amazon delivery
Re: amazon delivery
Nope, Amazon.co.uk will add the Finnish VAT rate (8% for books, 22% for CDs/DVDs/other) at the checkout. However, if your items are arriving from the Channel Islands (not sure if Amazon does this), then that's a whole different story. Check http://www.tulli.fi.

SO the last price that I see when I need to confirm the order, is the last and real price I guess...Iseult wrote:Nope, Amazon.co.uk will add the Finnish VAT rate (8% for books, 22% for CDs/DVDs/other) at the checkout. Re: amazon delivery
I suggest you check the prices on www.bookdepository.co.uk because they deliver for free to Finland and do NOT charge the 8% VAT. They almost always work out cheaper than amazon for books (but they don't do the other stuff).r32 wrote:Hi everybody
Do I need to pay any special tax for items coming from Amazon.uk?

Re: amazon delivery
Use PLAY - its often cheaper and no P&P....faster and better service too. Downside is it's a tad smaller than amazon, maybe bigger than book depos.
books, DVDs, games, electrical stuff (but wont ship it), think I got some porn from there too - bonus!
http://www.play.com
(theres an evern cheaper one...I'll scan thorugh my emails and find it tomorrow)
Best bet is to always cross reference amazon / play / BD for cheapest bargain...and of course, to check the availability. ebay too.

Play try and screw you on the exchange rate though, you are forced to buy in euros and at whatever they say the price is. Not the real exchange rate which is in our favour at the moment.Bubba Elvis XIV wrote:Use PLAY - its often cheaper and no P&P....faster and better service too. Re: amazon delivery
^It's also worth keeping in mind that Play.com ships from Jersey, hence you'll have to pay duty + tax if the value of the shipment is big enough.

Re: amazon delivery
yes....Play tries to screw you on the euro exchange but it's still often cheaper.
IIRC - Play is not strictly Jersey - it's complex cos thats how they got screwed before. They used to be dirt cheap but cos they have warehouses on EU soil they were viewed as EU or something so had to pay tax or something and the prices went up or something.
Another option is contact the publisher etc direct. Cut out the middle man. I do that for comics.
Again...The main thing you wanna do is check each price in all the companies. even if it takes a bit of time...you can be saving yourself a whole bunch of money just for an hour or so of browsing.
The book I am thinking to order is 7.99 in play (no p&P)...9.49 in amazon (then I pay p&p). the game I am looking at is 29 in Play and 45 in Amazon (then P&P) so Play can screw me on the exchange rate for all I care.
Might buy this, tattoo colouring in book - Turku Ink, here I come!

I'm afraid comics (or "graphic novels") are pretty much the only type of publication this might work for (indie publishers aside)... I used to work at a bookshop in London and regularly tried to order single books from publishers when a customer wanted a book specially ordered. It was like pulling teeth. Most publishers really do not want to send out anything in quantities smaller than, say, 10 copies. There are exceptions, of course. Most of these will be happy to rip you off on the postage. Sometimes the shop ended up paying the publisher more than we ever received from the customer (we only ever charged RRP). Remember to appreciate your local bookshop!Bubba Elvis XIV wrote:Another option is contact the publisher etc direct. Cut out the middle man. I do that for comics.
EDIT: Don't even get me started on people who rocked up at the bookshop with printouts from Amazon.co.uk and seriously expected us to price match. I regularly had to smile sweetly and say "I'm afraid we charge the RRP. You could always place an order with Amazon and wait a week for the book to arrive. Or you could buy it here now."

Fair call...my experience is mostly with indies so...but a lot of bigger companies do mail order. Maybe I got lucky or just happen to use the decent ones. Who knows?Iseult wrote:I'm afraid comics (or "graphic novels") are pretty much the only type of publication this might work for (indie publishers aside)... But that's a bit w@ank..."I can get it for xyz for 123"..I would have just smiled and said "well, why don't you then?"....but then of course, I would have an attitude problem.
